I remember the girl group who were being 'hailed' as the new spice girls - girl thing. I think they only had 2 songs! I just remember their opening line

"It's a girl thing....."

Girl Thing we're managed by the Spice Girls' ex-manager simon Fuller and he marketed them into the same mould as the Spices however it backfired, as both singles didn't do to well and they were dropped. Apparently Hear'Say's "Pure and Simple" was originally written for them.

Other flops that spring to mind are:

Blessed - They had a song called "Booo" which didn't chart, however they had a very laughable video where the girl members tried to dance in the road, and had a dodgy old man as the DJ.

Benefit - Bizzarely, they were big in Lebanon and Ukraine where they had a song called "Sex Sells" which was a bigger hit in Scandiniva by Finnish singer Sheidi. Their UK hit was a latino number called "What's It Gonna Be?". They are probably living up to their group namenow

D-Side - Irish boyband, who had hits with "Invisible", "Real World" and "Speechless". Shame they flopped as they had potential.

Reel - Another Irish boyband, who could be described more as Westlife meets the Corrs. Had three top 40 hits, but were HUGE in Ireland.

Skandal - All I know of these, were they were touted to be the next big thing, and were one of the for-runners of these "boybands with attitude". Their only single flopped and they appeared on the Trisha show to launch the song back in 2000.

Yes, the song was called "Last One Standing" if I remember correctly.

i love that song.....i think it was the one who wasn't in byker grove that wrote the songs. how about "what about us?" could have been good were it not for that freestyler bloke "rapping" all over it.

i always remember the a*teens, that abba covers band
oh and the fantastically titled e-male
"we are e-male,
we just can't fail"

hmm i wish i shared your confidence boys

probably... i remember their "boxtalk" (interview thingy on the box) like it was yesterday for some reason... yet it was 8 years ago or so. they were prancing around the record company MDs office. and they all had names beginning with the letter E ... E-nigma, E-go etc.

the box was/is an awful channel.... but in those days it was one of 3 music channels available to me.

Scooch were regularly on there too. did they not do a cover of "the littlest hobo" theme??

oh and has anyone mentioned other box friendly pop failures "northern line" with their classic "love on the northern line"

I don't think Hepburn were particularly a flop - I've heard I Quit played quite a bit on the radio (maybe not so much now), and it did go Top 10.

Supersister, well, with a song called Coffee ("I like my men like I like my coffee, hot strong and sweet like toffee"...!), and a follow-up called Shopping if I remember rightly (I don't think I ever heard it), they were never destined for success!

Oh okay, fair enough, I didn't know about that.

Hehe, yes, they were pretty dire.

I still remember (unfortunately) the Supersister song Shopping:

We're going shopping
You'd better bring along the bank
We're gonna break it

She still is now trading as the very respectable Xchange presenter Anna Kumble.
Thunderbugs had that dirge 'friends forever'. Made top 5 but they were still never seen again.
Girls@Play I remember too with their song 'airhead'. The lyrics basically went:
I've got the brains
He's got the looks
He watches TV
I read my books
He's in the slow lane
But he don't care
He's such a pretty face
But boy
He's got a head full of air
