From what I've heard about "Orange Orange" or "Upside Down" which was their original moniker, one of the members was working as a male escort. Musically they had a copy of George Michael's "Carless Whisper" as their first single, and an EXACT copy of Take That's "Pray", even with the video as their follow-up!

More a one hit wonder, but anyone remember Edwin Collins? He did "Never met a girl like you before". Great song, but I remember him being interviewed by somebody or other, I think he was in his 30s or something, and the interviewer saying, "How come a talented guy like you has never made it to now?". I was saying to myself "well, because hes a nerd". The guy just wasn't a popstar, he had a really nerdy voice and was hardly Mr Charisma. Suffice to say he didn't "make it" for long.

Hmmm, odd, checked both his name and the song title on everyhit.com, nothing comes up, maybe I dreamt it . I must have his name slightly wrong, as well as the song title.

Not exactly, he was the lead singer of the band Orange Juice who had a good deal of success in the 80s. He released a few other solo singles ('Adidas World' springs to mind) but 'The Magic Piper' only did as well as it did because it was in the Austin Powers movie, which somewhat says it all.

He's now a producer (I know he produced for Terrorvision but am certain there are others) and is currently recovering from a life-threatening brain tumour.

Hope he gets over it ok. I'd say he seemed more suited to producing, as his "coolness" seemed alittle lacking.

True, some people just aren't cut out to be rock stars, even if the talent's there. Graham Coxon must be about the most unlikely rock star of all time, especially given his largely timid singing voice.

Just did a check, it was in fact a brain haemorrhage. No news on NME since April where all seemed to be going as well as can be expected.

It was called "Something For The Weekend". It wasn't a bad song, quite catchy and simple. They were half-Iranian and it did reach no.38. I remember the video on "The Box", it was kind a cheap...them and the dancers is a white studio. and some cheap footage of them singing in a school..the same school was on "Central News"!
