Daisy Dares You.

I remember there was a huge amount of media hype around her at the time. She made the Sound Of 2010 list alongside Ellie Goulding, Marina and Hurts. Then her debut single with Chipmunk missed the top ten, the album was scrapped and she was dropped by her label. I don't think anyone's heard of her since. Its amazing how quickly someone's career can fall to pieces. It feels like ten years since she was around but its only been two. And she's still only eighteen.

More a one hit wonder, but anyone remember Edwin Collins? He did "Never met a girl like you before". Great song, but I remember him being interviewed by somebody or other, I think he was in his 30s or something, and the interviewer saying, "How come a talented guy like you has never made it to now?". I was saying to myself "well, because hes a nerd". The guy just wasn't a popstar, he had a really nerdy voice and was hardly Mr Charisma. Suffice to say he didn't "make it" for long.

Hmmm, odd, checked both his name and the song title on everyhit.com, nothing comes up, maybe I dreamt it . I must have his name slightly wrong, as well as the song title.

Naha:

4 Edwyn Collins A Girl Like You Jun 1995
32 Edwyn Collins The Magic Piper (Of Love) Aug 1997

2 hit wonder
he was in classic 80's band orange juice as well

Does anyone remember Smoke 2 Seven? They released two songs 'Been There Done That' and 'Envy'. I was gutted when they were dropped. I really wanted them to release an album.

An awful song by Geri Halliwell called 'Desire'. It is catchy but awful too, oh and flopped to high heaven.

Oh I remember her! I thought she was awful! Something about her came across as so uncomfortable and unnatural on camera. Number One Enemy was unspectacular too. I think it was her image giving her hype, not her material... Her follow up "Rosie" was awful too!

Sigue Sigue Sputnik the pop industry expected them to be the Next Big Thing - a cross between the Sex Pistols and Frankie Goes To Hollywood, but after one hit seem to fail.

Anyone remember Army Of Lovers?
They were very successful across Europe but flopped here. 'Crucified' and 'Israelism' are two of my fave songs.
Crucified was one of my favourite songs from 1992. It did make no 31 but was very gutted when it fell down the charts the following week. Don't know any of their other stuff though.

Bizarrely a few months later Tori Amos had a top 20 hit with Crucify.

Few one semi-hit wonders I loved include

Frances Nero - Footsteps following me
Crescendo - Are you out there
Hondy - No Access
ATC - Around the World (massive international hit but the UK got a terrible remix)
Alabama 3 - ain't Goin to Goa

3 of a Kind had a #1 with Babycakes and then just never released another single. Not that I'm bothered, Babycakes was a truly awful song

Jemini - Cry Baby
The famous UK Eurovision entry which got nul pois in 2003. To be fair it was pretty rubbish, although I liked the song at the time Did it even chart?

That's what you get for working with Pete Waterman.

Speaking of whom I remember The Reynolds Girls which Waterman played a part in creating, they were essentially sold as the white Mel and Kim, and disappeared after a solitary hit.

They weren't really a flop when they gave us the soundtrack to The Sopranos, widely considered one of the greatest TV series ever made.

Whenever these conversations come up, I tend to think of any number of failed boybands (the legendary E-Male cropped up earlier) that happen in small batches. I seem to recall the mini-era that gave us things like A1 also threw up Northern Line and Code Red.

And now I find that Code Red had three albums with the same line-up. That's not bad for a low-tier boyband.

Was a big fan of Tasmin Archer. Obviously Sleeping Satellite did quite well, but I remember a fairly respectable showing for all the singles off her first album, then a bit of a push for her Shipbuilding EP and then barely any public recognition from her second album onwards. But then, I realise that I'm talking about the sort of thing that's often erroneously labelled a "one-hit wonder" rather than a flop (see also Babylon Zoo and Scarlet of "Independent Love Song" fame).

1980s flop = Philip Jap. I don't know what kind of push he got, but his album was graced with production from the like of Trevor Horn and Tony Mansfield and he did a few big TV appearances over Europe. He released two singles, the biggest charting of which (Total Erasure) reached the surely frustrating chart position of #41 meaning a huge reduction in the number of people who would have heard it on the radio. As a result, pop obscurity, and his album has never been re-released on CD (I'm not sure it ever even hit cassette).

It's a shame, though, because Total Erasure is fricking marvellous:

Yeah but what happened to them after that? Didn't they fade back into obscurity? I read that they were supposed to release an album but it was dropped.

Its funny looking back on threads like this. The post above was only written in 2005 and a few years later Robyn was back and had a few pretty successful singles like 'With every heartbeat', 'Be Mine' and 'Dancing on my own' - so much for being a flop!
Also, Show me Love was not a flop. It wasn't huge either, but not a flop. It reached Number 8 IIRC.

Anyone remember the Irish boyband D-Side? I think they were around 2004ish.

I always thought they were a typical dullard boyband. They had 4 singles released in the UK, 'Speechless', 'Invisible', 'Real World' and 'Pushing Me Out'. The first three made the Top 10 and the fourth (yes, SaltNPepa Cover) was Top 20. Which is good by todays standards.

Anyway, I had a bit of a crush on the lead member so I got the album. Oh my days, for a boyband, the album was FANTASTIC. There were so many brilliant tracks on there. 'Dear You' and 'Where Do You Run' are beautiful catchy pop ballds. And 'I'd By Lying' was probably the best thing on that album. I shouldn't say this but I lost the album a few years ago, and have just bought another copy online.

The album bombed in the UK (which is a shame) but they continued to release a couple of albums in Europe. Eventually they went from 5 members down to 3. No idea what they're up to now except the blonde one presents 'Milkshake' on Channel 5.

I was mildly amused to see people early in this thread saying that Robyn was a flop. Although we don't hear from her now, she did go on to have a #1 single a couple of years after those posts.
