Turns out talkSPORT 2 didn't have someone at Ashton Gate on Tuesday, just at the ten other games in the Championship.
On that, what does every make of talkSPORT's decision to shift all of Tuesday's live football coverage to 2 in order to focus on the Sam Allardyce story on their primary station? It wouldn't have been my call, but then I'm not overly interested in England. I remember objecting to Radio 5 Live doing the very same thing on here the night Fabio Capello departed in 2012, although it's fair to say my view was a very unpopular opinion on here at the time! Did 5 Live do the same as talkSPORT or did they keep Leicester v Porto on their main station?
A few other things. It's the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round this weekend, so the draw for the fourth and final qualifying round should be taking place early next week. Now that Colin Murray has departed talkSPORT, with him having brought this draw to that station over the past three years, I wonder if it will still be broadcast live? If talkSPORT are still planning to host it, I think it would perhaps be a better fit for Hawksbee & Jacobs rather than Jim White's new mid-morning show. H&J have hosted sporting draws on their show including that of the World Snooker Championship in the past so are adept at this kind of thing, although I'm sure White will have anchored Scottish Cup draws at some point in the past. There's a small chance Murray might want to take the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round draw with him to 5 Live, but I'm not sure where they'd host it - it wouldn't be a good fit for any of their daytime shows now, and the evening editions of 5 Live Sport tend to focus heavily on the Premier League and England when discussing football. This draw is a better fit for talkSPORT, and I think it was a valuable public service that they have broadcast it to the nation over the past few years.
With there being no Saturday 5.30pm Premier League game this weekend, I was interested to see how talkSPORT would fill that gap in the schedule. They used to move Call Collymore to 5-7pm with The Season Ticket with Danny Kelly going to 7-10pm on these occasions in previous seasons, but with Kelly moving forward after Collymore's departure, it's his Full Time Phone-In that shifts to 5-7pm. They are then putting a three-hour edition of talkSPORT 2's boxing and UFC show Fight Club with Gareth A Davies immediately after it, followed by a My Sporting Life repeat. Sunday Exclusive is a double header from 11am - it's Manchester United v Stoke City at 12noon followed by Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City at 2.15pm.
