Scottish Football Lowland League
East Kilbride v BSC Glasgow - Kenny Crawford

East Kilbride recorded their 27th consecutive victory today. This beat Ajax's record of 26 straight wins (albeit in a slightly different class) in 1971/2. A superb gesture from Ajax Amsterdam who presented the club with 27 crates of Jupiler beer plus a video message from legend Edwin van der Sar. Real class..
Can't say I'm surprised that Ajax didn't do that when Hereford also had 27 consecutive wins, considering differences between England & Scotland on Brexit &c.

Jimmy Armfield is battling cancer again. I hope he pulls through. A wonderful broadcaster.
Yes I wish him well too. He is one of my favourite broadcasters. I always enjoy listening to him when he is used as a five live summariser

Sounds like 5Live did an around the grounds show with many PL & FA Cup games, I was critical they didn't do an FA Cup commentary and I still think they should have but you can understand the decision to go round the various grounds.

Not heard from Ian Cleverley for a few weeks are you okay?
Everything(s) fine. I simply got bored of doing it. Might re-start properly in a few weeks. I didn't get any coverage over last weekend as I was either asleep on Saturday (just started late night shift work), or watched a tepid FA Cup display at Alfreton yesterday.

Glad to hear everything is OK with you Ian. I'm glad your absence was simply just a case of you getting bored with this thread/forum than anything health-wise.

Great find with that Graham Beecroft interview on Radio City, Tony. I look forward to listening to it.

Tuesday 8th November - BBC WM 95.6

Richard Wilford presented BBC WM 95.6 Sport from the King Power Stadium

Devalued Trophy Group Stage
Leicester City Youth v Walsall - Richard Wilford
West Bromwich Albion Youth v Gillingham - Rob Gurney
Wolverhampton Wanderers Youth v Accrington Stanley - Mike Taylor

During the first two rounds of the group stage, WM had done commentary on Walsall, but with the Saddlers and Leicester both already having qualified for the knockout stage, WM decided to do an Open Mics/Around the Grounds show instead. They were originally listed to be doing commentary on Walsall (which is probably why this programme was blocked online from 7.45pm) and I think they would have done so had the Saddlers had qualification to play for. There was no summariser/guest at Leicester City, usually for Walsall's standalone/midweek matches they call upon the club's Saddlers Player co-commentator Mick Kearns for pre-match, half-time and full-time analysis, but he is ill at the moment. Rested club captain Adam Chambers sat in for him on Saddlers Player last night, while injured midfielder Kieron Morris stepped up for the Macclesfield game on Saturday.

With it being a rare international weekend where Walsall haven't postponed their match due to international call-ups, WM will be doing commentary on their game at Milton Keynes Dons on Saturday at 3pm. I'm sure they'll also have updates from some of the region's non-league games. I'm certain they'll want to cover Solihull Moors' first game post-Marcus Bignot, which is at home to Dover Athletic, and maybe they'll cover teams like Tamworth and Stourbridge too plus some ties from the FA Trophy.

Fair play to BBC stations covering the trophy, given some of the low crowds, maybe listenting figures were through the roof

Radio Sheffield is the only station I can receive which has changed its policy towards the trophy after the format of the trophy changed. Radio Humberside didn't cover the trophy in previous seasons.

Last night on Football Heaven they said it was due to the cost and trying to cover teams in the league. If they covered this, then they wouldn't be able to cover as many league matches. However they also said it might change.
