I'm not sure which game is on Freeview channel 722 - I think it might be Brentford v Birmingham City going by what the online stream switched to just before kick-off. I'm also not sure why Wolves don't appear to be a commentary.

[quote=The Difference;84690093Sorry to duplicate some of the details posted by swfcforever above, but just to confirm that Derek Parker is BBC Radio Sheffield and 5LSE's summariser tonight. Brian Laws was heard during their build-up, but he is doing his semi-regular job as BBC Radio Nottingham's Forest co-commentator. Also, Rob Staton was studio-based during the 6pm Football Heaven hour.

Good to hear a BBC Local Radio commentary simulcast on 5LSE tonight. It feel like the first time in quite a while they've done one for a Friday night Championship game, but I always appreciate it when they do put one on there.[/QUOTE]

No Problem, I only caught a Fleeting listen.

Today on BBC Radio Sheffield:-
15:00 Kick off's:-
Wolverhampton v Sheffield Wednesday. Rob Staton alongside John Pearson on FM and Freeview 734.
Charlton v Sheffield United. Adam Oxley and Keith Edwards on DAB and MW.

Reports from:-
Chesterfield v Bristol Rovers-Matthew Shaw
Doncaster v Leyton Orient-Mike Miney

17:30:-
Rotherham v Leeds. Jonathan Buchan and Guy Branston.
Jonathan hosted from around 17:05 and will be hosting Praise and Grumble afterwards until 20:00.

During 14:00 until 15:00, Rob Staton hosted build up to kick off, with Jamie Campbell providing links and sports news. I presume he will be doing the same during Praise and Grumble.

5 Live Sport - 27.11.16

With Jonathan Overend at St Mary's

Watford v Stoke - Rob Nothman (Alistair Bruce-Ball & Jermaine Jenas on SE)
Arsenal v Bournemouth - John Southall
Man U v West Ham - Ian Brown
Southampton v Everton - Alan Green & Steve Claridge (commentary)

I wonder if the PL dictate what the commentaries are because I find it hard to believe 5 Live wouldn't opt for Man U v West Ham if they could.

It's been a frustrating one all round today. With BBC Radio 5 Live quite rightly prioritising the final Formula 1 Grand Prix of the season, today's earlier kick-off between Watford and Stoke City was forced onto 5 Live Sports Extra rather than airing on talkSPORT as per its timeslot as it would have in previous years. This is surely only due to the new rights arrangement, yet in this case it will almost certainly have meant the game in question will have gone out to a smaller listening audience give the two stations' respective reach as per the RAJAR figures.

It would have been far better if the Premier League had taken a more common sense approach, regardless of the TV packages, and allowed talkSPORT to do a Sunday double header of the early games, as is usually the case when more than two matches kick off before 3pm, and allowed the BBC to broadcast one 4.30pm kick-off on 5 Live and the other on 5 Live Sports Extra. Under the new arrangement this term, you have one game that was on a digital-only station that would have been on analogue last season, and another game that isn't receiving national radio coverage at all, which almost certainly would have last season.

It's hard not to look at the two abnormalities of today's Premier League radio arrangements and deem them a good thing - as you say, I'm sure Radio 5 Live would have broadcast Manchester United v West Ham if they could have, while I'm also sure they wouldn't have begrudged talkSPORT having Watford v Stoke while they were covering the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. So who is this new arrangement benefiting? It seems to me that it's hampered both stations and the audience at large today at least.

Alan McLoughlin was billed as Bernard O'Toole's co-commentator at the Emirates Stadium, but he didn't appear and Bernard flew solo. I don't think Newstalk carried IRN's updates from Watford v Stoke City.

Interesting that TS Live also didn't have the Man Utd game at 4:30, seems like they & 5Live had to do the TV game? As whether UK or abroad, the Man Utd game would interest more people and I agree with The Difference's thoughts on the scheduling yesterday involving the first and 4:30 games

To complicate things further, Man United vs. West Ham United was available nationally via BBC Radio London. I listened to it online through the iPlayer Radio app.

I don't think there will be full commentary of El Clasico on talkSPORT 2 which is a shame looking at the schedules as Crystal Palace V Southampton is the featured commentary on that day. However based on the MDL2 program info it seems like it will be covered extensively.
I have heard that talkSPORT will be providing an additional online stream that will carry full commentary on Barcelona v Real Madrid on Saturday, what with talkSPORT 2 committed to full commentary on Crystal Palace v Southampton and the main talkSPORT doing Matchday Live as usual. This El Clasico commentary will then go out in talkSPORT 2's 2-4am Sunday morning slot that usually carries a re-run of the evening game. With the match being a 3.15pm kick-off, it will be interesting to hear if Matchday Live 2 carries the closing stages of each half at half-time and full-time in the Premier League fixture - I expect they will do at least the latter should the game still be close.

talkSPORT 2's live La Liga coverage next weekend will include both the weekend 7.45pm kick-offs - Atletico Madrid v Espanyol on Saturday and Valencia v Malaga on Sunday. This Wednesday, they are doing a double header from the Copa del Rey - Real Madrid v Cultural Leonesa from 6pm then Hercules v Barcelona from 8.30pm. This will be followed by a new show at 11pm, Golf Week with Bob Bubka.

It's a real shame for talkSPORT 2 that El Clasico is a Saturday 3.15pm kick-off. Were it taking place in any other timeslot, I'm sure it would have taken pride of place on the station, especially now the domestic cricket, Super League, MotoGP and ATP World Tour seasons are finished and the only live domestic sport they have at the moment is Premier League football and Premiership rugby union. But that Saturday 3pm Premier League contract is almost certainly the biggest they hold and I can understand why they feel they must prioritise it. I'm pleased to hear they will be employing an alternative audio stream though, I was critical of them when they didn't utilise one for the semi-finals of T20 Blast Finals Day and the ATP World Tour Finals, so it's good to hear one will be used here.

Sunday 20th November - talkSPORT
The date in my last two posts should read Sunday 27th November. Forgetting to change the dates is a drawback of quoting old posts to use the templates in them!
