Bristol Rovers v Barrow - Alistair Durden and Keith Brookman (2pm commentary, also on Gas Player)

Had Stourbridge v Northampton Town gone ahead, Steve Hermon and Daz Hale would have been BBC WM's commentary team for coverage of the game on DAB and the BBC Sport website.

The rescheduled game will take place on Tuesday week, which happens to clash with Walsall's Devalued Trophy knockout tie against Oldham Athletic. It will be really interesting to see which game WM prioritises that night (could they even split the platforms?). Writing as a Saddlers fan, I would have no absolutely problem if they decide to prioritise commentary on the Glassboys, given the regard the Trophy is now held in since the influx of youth teams. On that, I'm surprised to see that WM are scheduled to be broadcasting commentary on Wolves Youth v Sunderland Youth in said competition on Monday night.

Fair play to 5Live for managing to find another co-comm at Bristol (unless that was already planned!)

Everyone's favourite duo of Alan & Robbie also, what a treat

Though they said Jimmy Carter was summarising at Bournemouth on twitter it was actually Jimmy Case.

Ah thanks. I have heard Jimmy Carter summarising on BBC Radio Merseyside (never having heard of him) before. I didn't get a chance to hear the pre-match preview today as it was an early match.

I dunno, though, I'm not sure it's that weird a choice. Man City are at home to Watford, which seems unlikely to be picked, and then are Sunderland vs Chelsea and Middlesbrough vs Liverpool more exciting than Palace vs Man U? The latter seems likely to be the closest game, and both teams have managers under a bit of pressure. I wouldn't neccessariy say Five Live wouldn't have chosen that independently.

Indeed, and the Stourbridge match appeared to be called off very close to kick-off as well. As you say, pretty good they managed to get an alternative commentary on when they could have easily done around the grounds and chat like they usually do on Sundays.

Monday 5th December - talkSPORT

Mark Saggers presented Kick Off alongside Clive Allen and Gabriele Marcotti from The Times

Premier League
Middlesbrough v Hull City - Graham Courtney

FA Cup Third Round Draw
BT Tower, London - Jake Humphrey presented, with Steven Gerrard drawing the home teams and Ian Wright drawing the away teams (audio simulcast from BT Sport 1)

Notable to hear Gabriele Marcotti on talkSPORT last night, I think it was the first time he's been a studio guest on the station for a number of years. Previously he was one of talkSPORT's regular Monday night Kick Off co-hosts prior to Stan Collymore's arrival at the station in 2008/09.

talkSPORT Live

Premier League
Middlesbrough v Hull City - Tom Rennie and Stephen Hunt

BBC Tees

Paul Addison presented BBC Tees Sport from the Riverside Stadium

Premier League

BBC Radio Humberside

Matt Dean presented Humberside Sport from the Riverside Stadium

Premier League
Middlesbrough v Hull City - David Burns and Stuart Green (8pm commentary, also on Tigers Player)

BBC Radio Lincolnshire

Rob Makepeace presented a Sports Special from Sincil Bank

FA Cup Second Round
Lincoln City v Oldham Athletic - Rob Makepeace and Steve Thompson (7.45pm commentary, also on the BBC Sport website)

BBC Radio Manchester limited their commentary on this match to being a BBC Sport website option. All three BBC Local Radio stations listed above simulcast the FA Cup Third Round Draw from BT Sport 1 as talkSPORT did.

Turns out BBC WM didn't do commentary on Wolves Youth v Sunderland Youth in the Devalued Trophy last night, despite it being listed as being a live commentary on the schedule page of WM's website. However, they did send Mike Taylor to Molineux to conduct post-match interviews.

Be inetersting to see if and then how 5Live explain no commentaries on CL tonight

7-9pm is football discussion, 9-10 is a show on the plane crash last week, 10-10:30 is their cricket show

I think it will be pretty easy to explain, both ties featuring english teams are dead rubbers, yes you can argue that the spurs game is a europa league playoff, but i doubt many people care about the europa league. Pochotino has said himself he will be making alot of changes for the game, so if he doesnt care why should anyone else?.

Its a good chance for 5live to save some money

That was the explanation they gave on Monday Night Football. Isn't live sports the largest listenership of a sports station. talkSPORT was a fledging station until it gain rights to Premier League football. So 5Live Sport will be uninspiring using its "dead rubber/save money" excuse...
> The last few races of the Formula 1 season will not be broadcast as Lewis Hamilton will have already become champion and the remaining races are "dead rubbers"
> The end of cricket tours will not be broadcast as England has already lost the series and the remaining Tests/ODIs are "dead rubbers"
> 5Live Sport will not be broadcasting any middle 10 Premier League matches as the clubs cannot get relegated or still qualify for Champions League ("dead rubbers")

I think the difference is Formula 1,Cricket, Premier League are all in a package deal where you buy the seasons worth of matches/races. Champions League seems to be a match by match thing and you get the impression it isn't cheap.

That is exactly the point I was going to make. The costs involved in gaining rights to individual Champions League games have proved prohibitive to both BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT in the past, stopping them from even holding reporting access to matches in some cases (although I do question the rationale behind 5 Live sending reporters to continental Europe to cover non-commentary Champions League group games; if costs are an issue generally it would make more sense to me to do off-tube updates on such fixtures).

If you look at talkSPORT last night, it's clear they opted for Leicester's dead rubber at Porto rather than Tottenham v CSKA Moscow because of their policy of almost always covering matches played in continental Europe, which I can only assume is based on cost reasons (that said, Spurs are one of the clubs they've worked with on a regional level in the now-distant past, would acquiring commentary rights from them have been as difficult as it has been with certain other clubs?). For 5 Live, they take very little interest in the Europa League before the business end of that competition, so I can see why they decided against picking up rights to what effectively was a Europa League play-off when they won't have commentary on similar matches for Manchester United or Southampton tonight.

On the subject of talkSPORT, I notice that today they have placed half-page adverts in both The Times and The Sun's sports sections flagging up their commentary on Zorya Luhansk v Manchester United from 5.45pm. I've also noticed over the course of the week how both News Corp-owned papers have highlighted how this and the four Champions League games they've covered live - including the two on talkSPORT 2 - have been commentaries on their stations when flagging up TV and radio broadcasters in the stats boxes that accompany their match previews. This is something neither paper have done until recently (whereas the Daily Mail for example usually would mention it if a game was on talkSPORT). With The Times' The Game podcast now going out on talkSPORT 2 and Gabriele Marcotti returning to the station this week, with him being billed as a Times journalist, I think it is starting to become clear that talkSPORT's relationship with the two News Corp-owned papers is becoming firmer as the News Corp takeover of the station approaches formal ratification and completion.

This week's Private Eye has also highlighted various bits of promotion for talkSPORT in The Sun.

Thursday 8th December - talkSPORT

Drive Time with Adrian Durham and Darren Gough, followed by Mark Saggers presenting a Kick Off: Europa League Special alongside Jim White from The Daily Telegraph

UEFA Europa League Group Stage
Zorya Luhansk v Manchester United - Jim Proudfoot and Ray Wilkins (6pm commentary)
Southampton v Hapoel Beer Sheva - Laurence Mora

It was a slightly unusual set-up for talkSPORT's Europa League coverage tonight, particularly given how it was billed as starting at 5.45pm in the newspapers this morning. Drive Time ran right the way up until 6pm, with Durham and Gough handing over to the commentary team at the top of the hour just after the pre-match minute's silence. Jim Proudfoot handled the half-time presentation links, before Mark Saggers took over at full-time. Normally for 6pm Europa League commentaries, the evening Kick Off presenter will take over during the quarter hour before kick-off.

BBC Radio Solent

Chris Wise presenting BBC Radio Solent Sport from St Mary's Stadium
