5Live reporting debut for Ian Stringer?

Big game for John Acres to get even though it wasn't commentary. A weekend off for John Murray too.

Sort of. He did Porto v Leicester on Wednesday for 5 Live but they were recorded reports as he was live on BBC Radio Leicester. He did a pre-match preview, plus half-time and full-time pieces.

Yesterday was clearly live.

Following talkSPORT's increased links with The Sun, Sam Matterface has started a new column- in The Mirror http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...a-very-9441166

I'll be honest, anything that has links to The Sun deserves to fail. Such a hateful publication.

I really admire those who left after the takeover. I wonder if listening figures will eventually be impacted? There's a growing anti Sun/spreaders of hatred group in society.

Sky Sports is linked to The Sun. The Times is linked to The Sun. Do they deserve to fail too? Where do you draw the line with linking media organisations? Not defending/supporting The Sun here by the way, just making a wider point.

Am I missing something here? What is the connection between the Sun and the Mirror?

I'm wondering if The Mirror have deliberately been cheeky in signing up talkSPORT's Sam Matterface, given the increased links between their rival, The Sun, and talkSPORT.

And the wider point is a fair one. Do Radio 5 Live football discussion programmes like The Monday Night Club deserve to fail when they have Sun journalists on as guests? I'd be interested to know Col's thoughts on that one.

Personally, in terms of their links to The Sun, I think it is only right to take an even-handed approach and view talkSPORT in the same way you would other News Corp subsidiaries like Sky Sports, Sky News and The Times.

Interesting timing for Sam Matterface to start writing a new column in the Daily Mirror - thanks to Tony for drawing attention to it. talkSPORT's growing links to the two News Corp newspapers do not appear to have diminished the amount of airtime sports journalists from the Mirror and other competing newspapers receive on the station as far as I've heard, with the likes of John Cross and Darren Lewis being station regulars. I do not think this will change, just as Sky Bet's strong links with talkSPORT 2 since its launch in the spring have not prevented other bookmakers from advertising on the main station.
