BBC Radio Sheffield-26/12/16:-

15:00 Kick-Off's.
Jonathan Buchan hosted Build up to Kick Off between 14:00 and 15:00 from Bramall Lane. He also commentated on Sheffield United v Oldham, alongside Keith Edwards on FM and Freeview. Jonathan is also hosting Praise and Grumble between 17:00 and 18:30 from Bramall Lane.

Mike Miney Commentated on Notts County v Doncaster Rovers on DAB/MW.

Reporters:-
Rochdale v Chesterfield. Matt Shaw.
Barnsley v Blackburn. Adam Oxley.
Rotherham v Wigan. John Duckliffe?

Jamie Campbell did the Sports News at 14:30 and Half-time, plus I presume in Praise and Grumble after the games, plus e-mails, texts and twitter as usual.

19:45 Game
Newcastle United v Sheffield Wednesday. From a process of elimination I believe it will be Rob Staton (Jonathan at the Lane, Paul Walker at Reading and Andy Giddings at Bradford). Already been announced that Jon Newsome is summerising. I presume he will be hosting build up to kick off between 19:30 and 19:45 from St James' Park.

Between 18:30 and 19:30, there is an 'Audience with James Toseland' repeated from earlier in the year.

Already being announced that commentary on Thursday will be Rotherham United v Burton Albion and will be Andy Giddings alongside Guy Branston (Legend) with a 19:45 kick-off.

Saturday 31st will have Mansfield v Doncaster Commentary. First Half will be on FM with the second half on MW/DAB. This is a 12:15 kick-off

I wasn't expecting TS2 to have a game - but always expected 5 Live to have a 3pm game today.

As you say it's the same on Monday next week. Very odd.

Can anyone think of the logic for this? What do you the Premier League gain by not having 3pm commentaries on Boxing Day? Let's be honest, this will be the first time in ages there's been no live game on Boxing Day.
I think talkSPORT 2 would have broadcast a 3pm Premier League commentary today if they could have. Although they had a good alternative in a Premiership rugby union commentary this afternoon, they have already broadcast two matches on Christmas Eve and are doing the Big Game at Twickenham tomorrow, so aren't exactly skimping in that area.

So neither the BBC nor talkSPORT can broadcast non-televised 3pm commentaries on a Bank Holiday matchround. This is just the latest in a long line of unwelcome changes to the new Premier League national radio rights deal we've seen, including - stations seem to be restricted into choosing the live TV matches when there is more than one game taking place in a timeslot they have rights to, and can't pick up concurrent non-televised matches for their secondary channel. Now that Radio 5 Live have exclusivity over all midweek kick-offs, it appears as if they can only do one commentary per night - so (with talkSPORT 2 now in the picture) we've gone from potentially hearing four commentaries during midweek matchrounds to just two. Certain standalone games are being taken off the stations that regularly hold rights to the timeslot in question and switched to their competitor seemingly solely on the basis of TV rights picks, in a manner that is difficult for the aficionados on here to follow, let alone the layman. The Sunday 12noon kick-offs, for six years the preserve of talkSPORT, are now generally (but not always) switching to the BBC, which has already seen one such match having to go out on digital-only 5 Live Sports Extra because of a long-standing other sporting commitment for 5 Live.

Who benefits from the changes the Premier League have imposed? None of them are particularly beneficial to anyone as far as I can see. I was hoping that the new Premier League national radio rights deal would be a bit more flexible, but if anything it's become a lot more restrictive and confusing.

BBC Five Live Sports Extra took BBC Newcastle's commentary last night. It is the first time I have heard the new Newcastle United commentator but I felt he sounded very flat. Chris Sykes will be doing the next two Newcastle United commentaries with Matthew Raisbeck returning for Newcastle's FA Cup Third Round tie.

One thing to point out is that Jim Proudfoot will be at the BDO World Darts Championship this year commentating for C4/BT so his talkSPORT commentaries at the start of January will be very much in the low single figures. I suppose Nigel Adderley will be doing a lot more commentaries then.

They wouldn't normally do home games but Blackburn playing away at 12.30pm means BBC Lancashire will have the Burnley game live via 95.5FM frequency. 2BR haven't done commentary for a long while.
