5Live week 2 Olympic schedules are out, Digiguide has blank program descriptions but based on the blocks, 5Live are doing their full set of PL comms and 606 features on both Saturday & Sunday (with Saturday just an hour)
I wasn't sure what coverage they'd provide. I'd imagine Mark Chapman will still be on Saturday, just from Rio. |

Saturday 30th July - BBC WM
Paul Franks presented BBC WM Sport from Molineux Friendly Matches Aston Villa v Middlesbrough - ? Birmingham City v Roda JC Kerkrade - Richard Wilford Luton Town v Walsall - Tom Marlow Wolverhampton Wanderers v Swansea City - Mike Taylor and Paul Franks BBC WM's coverage of the final Saturday of friendlies only aired on their DAB and Freeview channel 722 platforms from 2.30pm. I'm not sure if they broadcast a commentary or just around the grounds updates, if there was a commentary I imagine it will have been on Wolves given where Franksy was based. I don't know who their reporter was at Villa Park, I imagine it may have been Mark Regan or Rob Gurney as they are not on Twitter. Next Saturday, their main 3pm commentary game on 95.6FM will be Rotherham United v Wolves with Mike Taylor and Steve Daley. |

talkSPORT.com has today updated its schedules for this weekend. Here are the key bits of information.
*Football League magazine show Up The League is set to return in its usual seasonal slot of 6-7am on Saturday mornings, although it's been erroneously listed as being in that slot throughout the summer! It's definitely returning though this weekend though (My Sporting Life highlights edits replace it during June and July), as host Geoff Peters has tweeted about it from the EFL launch at Craven Cottage today. *Matchday Live is returning from 1-5pm this Saturday, with Ian Danter and Michael Gray hosting. I imagine Adrian Durham and Ray Parlour will return the following Saturday when the Premier League season begins. *The 5-7pm phone is listed as "Final Whistle" - which was the title talkSPORT's weekend post-match phone-ins went under prior to Stan Collymore's arrival at the station in 2008. No presenter(s) is listed, although whoever hosts this particular show shouldn't be indicative of who the permanent host will be - Stan never anchored the phone-in on the first Saturday of the Football League season. *The Transfer Tavern (presumably to be hosted by Nat Coombs) is listed for 7-9pm on Saturday in the absence of a live commentary, with Danny Kelly hosting The Season Ticket to follow it between 9pm-midnight as was the case last season. *Sunday Exclusive and their FA Community Shield commentary is listed for 3-6pm, with the programme description reading: "Jim Proudfoot, Sam Matterface and Ray Houghton bring you live commentary of the Community Shield between Leicester and Man Utd." Given the order they are listed, I imagine Jim will be presenting and Sam commentating with Ray on co-commentary. *Call Collymore is listed for 6-7pm, although the title clearly must be a mistake - I imagine the post-match phone-in will go under the Final Whistle heading as on Saturday and will be anchored by Jim or Sam with Ray from Wembley Stadium, as has tended to be the way on Community Shield Sunday (in recent years Stan would miss this weekend and return for the first weekend of the Premier League season). *Their Community Shield coverage is to be preceded by "Mourinho in Manchester" between 1-3pm, which I presume is a documentary, with The Press Pass going out between 7-10pm given the later kick-off (it usually airs between 6-8pm on Sundays). |

I wonder how Radio Derby are going to divide their frequencies on Saturday. Surely Burton vs Nottingham Forest is a bigger game than Derby vs Brighton??

In the Olympics, Canada's match against Australia is on TSN, and New Zealand's match against the USA is on Radio Sport in New Zealand. Quote:

The audience figures for talkSPORT and talkSPORT 2. Quote:
talkSPORT has increased its weekly reach to 3.3million listeners – the second highest result that the station has ever posted – with a record 49 % of these listeners ABC1 men. The latter is only likely to go up when there's more awareness of the station and they're back into a relatively full schedule of live sport from August onwards.
The station has triumphed with its individual shows, breaking listener records across four of its key weekday shows – The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast (0600 – 1000), Colin Murray (1000 – 1300), Hawksbee & Jacobs (1300 – 1600) and Drivetime with Darren Gough and Adrian Durham (1600 – 1900) – and on its Saturday Sports Breakfast, hosted by Georgie Bingham and Micky Quinn (0700 – 1100). talkSPORT 2, an extension of the much-loved talkSPORT brand, has also proven a popular choice, drawing an initial 285,000 listeners to the station. Launched to bring listeners access to a wider range of sports on British radio, talkSPORT 2’s content has been driven by a range of partnerships with leading sports rights holders, including the ICC World Twenty20 – where talkSPORT 2 was the only place listeners could hear every game – the Aviva Premiership, First Utility Superleague, La Liga, Indian Premier League, and ATP World Tour Masters, with the proven charismatic talkSPORT personality applied across the schedule. |

Pulse 2
Chrris Cooper will commentate on Bradford City. Ian Ormondroyd has left. Jason Thornton is still involved. The post-match phone-in will be for fans of all teams.
It seems strange moving from commentating to summarising, so I wonder if Jason Thornton is still presenting the show? There seems to be an emphasis on covering sport more widely, so I wonder if there will be a reporter at Huddersfield Town matches? |

The latter is only likely to go up when there's more awareness of the station and they're back into a relatively full schedule of live sport from August onwards. As you imply, it's a fairly difficult period to judge talkSPORT 2 by, given that the sample period concluded with the group stage and the bulk of the round of 16 from Euro 2016, where talkSPORT 2 was light in terms of live output (just a few T20 Blast, Super League and Euro 2016 final group games, but less than there had been during the station's first three months on-air) and obviously had strong competition from its big brother station alone. While the period didn't include the World Twenty20 (which concluded the day before the sample period started), it did take in the IPL so it tracks the transitional period where the schedule was packed full of cricket in the afternoons to the point we are at now where they are starting to settle on mostly discussion-based shows during the daytime. I imagine Q4 2016 will give us a more solid picture of how talkSPORT 2 is performing, given that this will be the first full quarter that can track the station's live Premier League, Champions League and La Liga football and Premiership rugby union coverage, while county/IPL cricket and ATP Masters tennis tournaments shouldn't be appearing as infrequently as they have been in their weekday daytime schedule. Good to see Chris Cooper back on The Pulse of West Yorkshire, returning to the job he had before going full-time with talkSPORT 15 years or so back as their Bradford City commentator. It'll be interesting to see if we hear him pop up on talkSPORT as a reporter on the days when the Bantams aren't playing now he is back in the TWG fold. Regarding BBC Radio Derby's coverage: regardless of the size of their clubs' support and the relative importance of particular matches; when Derby and Burton play at the same time it might be sensible to keep Brewers matches on AM with the Rams on FM as Burton upon Trent is on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border and so some of the club's fanbase will overlap with the BBC WM catchment area. 1116AM has a strong reach and can be picked up pretty clearly in my part of the West Midlands, so I think it's sensible to keep Brewers matches on there. |

Thursday 4th August - talkSPORT
Mark Saggers presenting Kick Off alongside Bruce Millington from the Racing Post UEFA Europa League Third Qualifying Round Second Leg West Ham United v NK Domzale - Ian Abrahams Cricket: Third Test Match England v Pakistan - Jon Norman During last night's Kick Off, Dom McGuinness provided a full-time report from Old Trafford on Wayne Rooney's Testimonial between Manchester United and Everton. I don't think he was covering the match while it was in-progress, though. This time last week, talkSPORT 2 provided commentary on the first leg of West Ham's Europa League qualifier. They're not covering tonight's match, with their regular Super League Live coverage airing instead. Craig Murdock and Andrew Henderson are commentating on Warrington Wolves v St Helens (it's the first time Mark Wilson has been missing for one of their rugby league commentaries, incidentally). Mark Saggers mentioned that talkSPORT's live commentary from the first round of the League Cup next week will be Luton Town v Aston Villa on Wednesday. Sam Matterface and Alvin Martin will be commentating. On Tuesday, Saggers will be presenting an Around the Grounds show from Cambridge United v Sheffield Wednesday. BBC Radio London Andy Rowley presenting BBC Radio London Sport from the London Stadium UEFA Europa League Third Qualifying Round Second Leg West Ham United v NK Domzale - Andy Rowley and Bradley Allen (7.45pm commentary on 94.9FM), with Emma Saunders speaking with the fans This time last week, BBC Radio London's commentary on the first leg was streamed online (despite the programme description stating otherwise), but the second leg is being blocked online tonight. |
