We are going away for a week later this summer, and I don't think our cat would do very well with someone just coming in once a day to feed her and change the litter. She's very interactive and loves to play, I'm afraid she'd be too lonely.

There is a kennel/cattery close to us and they charge just £8 per day for boarding, which sounds very reasonable.

Have any of you ever boarded your cat?

I've boarded my cats. Always more than one, though, and they were in together. I've also left them at home with someone going in to feed and let them in and out. Both situations worked out fine. I only have one cat now and I think if I went away I would put her in a cattery. Just so I know she is safe and not going to be left out all night or anything like that.

We've only had her a short time so we don't have a cat flap. I'd be worried if someone came to look after her that she might get out and they'd have trouble getting her back in. She's a little skittish around strangers.

Given your worries about her getting out I'd go for the cattery this time. In future if you give her a cat-flap you may be better with a sitter/neighbour popping in.

I have but only once - Olive (RIP) absolutely hated it and spent the entire time hiding under the pillow - apparently she barely ate and was miserable

It all really depends on your kitty I guess, Olive (RIP) hated the cattery but there are some cats who really dont mind and it does give you peace of mind to know they are safe

I was lucky with Olive (RIP) she was a real home girl, never left my garden, hardly ever went out and was pretty easy to look after but again, depends on the kitty

If you are worried about leaving her home alone then I would try the cattery - if she absolutely hates it then dont use them the next time you go away

I'd say kitty would definitely prefer to stay at home. But clearly you'll have to sort a flap out. I / my neighbour always sit for each other whenever we go away.

It depends on the cattery. Some catteries are too nice and the cat doesn't want to come home. Some catteries are awful and the cat escapes.
