The speculation was that her celeb dropped out, though that hasn't been confirmed that I know about, but it's possible that we were supposed to have 16 couples?? Jo has said she'll have a partner this time. Currently we're on 15 pros including Jo. Two more and we'd be on 17 which is too many for them all tohave celebs, surely .

Perhaps they're trying to build in some flexibility so they can run with 14 - 15 couples plus a couple of spares to use as a troupe and the final number of couples will be depend on who they can secure for the celeb cast.”

BIB Cringe ....I hope not. I hate the idea of the Troupe on dancing with the stars and I hope they dont introduce it here. All they do is do dodgy bumpers, campaign desperately and aggressively to be promoted pros, spoil a lot of routines IMO...dont get me wrong , some of the pros in the troupe are talented but I just dont think they are necessary on the show. I guess we'll see.

Dancey people, does this mean Neil and Katya jones will not be competing together at least for the duration of strictly (eg at the internationals at the RAH in october?) Is there any precedent for strictly pros competing while appearing on the show?

I wouldn't be surprised if Neil was announced as well. I think they would (and will) be fantastic for strictly as they have such a sense of fun with their dancing. If anyone can pull off creative themes without sacrificing dance content it's them! I just so wanted to see them dance with each other at some point and would be gutted if I'd missed my chance! Surely they will not stop competing now?

Apparently Aliona has reneged on her desicion to quit and is now first reserve should any of the female pros do themselves a mischief and drop out.

Aliona has tweeted in the last couple of hours that this report is completely untrue.

The only thing she said is true is that she and Jay will be dancing their Pulp Fiction jive on the launch show.

May be a case of watch this space, but my personal opinion is that they won't, based on the assumption that Katya is in the comp for a while. I don't know of course, just my thoughts. Putting myself in their situation, with all the hours they put in every day, most days of the week, with the celeb, there would be little or no time for their own training and lessons. Bearing in mind where they are ranked in the World, I would be extremely surprised if they competed if they felt they were less than their best due to heavy work schedule of Strictly. Even when they are not working with their celeb, they would be working on and rehearsing Pro numbers.
Yes, they could take part in the competitions of course, but I am aware of the incredible of amount of work that couples put in, if only to keep their place in the pecking order, never mind improve your ranking.
The British Nationals is in November too. Will be interesting to see. What I wouldn't want to see, if them competing, and not putting in the time and getting results on reputation alone, (has been known before, not necessarily the Jones's).

Hurrah
Now, fingers crossed they can find Jay a pair of trousers that don't have to be hemmed up with a dirty great safety pin ...

I'm not keen on the idea of a troupe either but I think it was originally mentioned by backstageone when he was giving clues about the new pros (all of which have been proved correct). I thought the troupe reference was a clue to Oksana as she and her husband are part of a troupe, rather than an indication that there would be a troupe in SCD this year.

That tweet:

Quote:
“Aliona Kavanagh Verified account
‏@AlionaVilani

Just to make it clear🙃👉🏼I will definitely not be stepping in for any female pros nor will I be doing any choreography for this SCD2016!🏆💃✌🏼️”

So that Mirror story is wrong in that respect.

That's what I like about Aliona - no bull$hit, slaps down any rumours and won't allow anyone to use her name for publicity unless she is actually involved. Girl Power!

Really don't like the idea of a troupe. Hope that doesn't come to fruition.

I thought for sure I remembered Aliona tweeting that she would remain part of Strictly - either I'm misremembering or they told her no.

Didn't she say something about returning for some of the pro routines? Or perhaps I imagined that lol.

My take on this is that she won't compete this year, will appear in the opening episode to deliver the jive that they should have done last year(!), and is definitely not burning any bridges with the Strictly team! I'd be surprised if she doesn't do one or both of the CiN and Christmas episodes. Essentially, they've given her this series off, but are keeping her at least partly in the Strictly payroll, as a 'part-timer'. I'm betting it was either lose her entirely, or give her one series off from full-time duties, and Strictly wanted to retain her services in the long term. She'll be back properly in the next year, I'm certain - perhaps as soon as the Strictly tour, if she subs out one of the dancers who goes off on their own tours instead of the Strictly one.

In fact she wanted to be back as a choreographer but she was not asked back.

Pending on the hiring of other celebrities the next 2 pros will be from the UK.

Thanks, backstageone! (and for all your yummy scoops)

Can't say I'm surprised about Aliona. 'nuff said

Thanks also, GoinGage and dizzie - I was positive I remembered her saying something like that - and you never really know what they'll do down the road - they probably don't know what they'll do, necessarily.

since Craig said via interview the celebs are chosen before the pros like I said I knew anyway I wonder if there were any celebs that the producers had ready for the departing pros since they match them up choosing the celebs then choosing the pros like Craig said yesterday and I said a couple of weeks ago?

BIB the producers knew months ago which pros were not coming back, apart from Gleb, so I doubt it

I reckon Neil Jones is quite likely and maybe Faye Huddleston could be the other professional announced. Faye seems to be quite tall and, at the moment, the only tall female pro is Natalie so it would be nice to have someone else who would be able to dance with male celebs without a massive height difference.

Yeah I'd be inclined to agree. I chatted about it with my dance teacher recently and she was of a similar opinion to you that they most likely just wouldn't have the time.

It's a shame. I would have really liked to have seen them dancing. Obviously we will see them dance on strictly (I'm completely assuming Neil is going to be announced too,) but it's just not the same as competitive dancing at all. I don't think the GBP will have much awareness of the level of their dancing. It was sad to see some negative reaction to Jo in her first series considering the competitive career she's had.

I too was saddened to see the level of negativity towards Jo initially, as she did nothing at all to warrant it. Sadly she was partnered by someone who just would not make a dancer, no matter who was teaching him - but of course, Jo took the brunt of that. Both she and Kevin are fantastic dancers, coaches and great ambassadors for dance in general.

I have no idea as to whether Neil has been asked or not to dance, he of course may just be asked to help choreograph as he has done many times. Do we know whether the remaining Pro's to be asked are male or female ?
