Worst player of the England national team 2016
Now I realise just about every player qualifies for this title, there must be one that stands out more than the others.
I have left out Joe Hart as he is obviously an issue that we are all aware of, but I think there are two sides to this problem - the issue of letting the goals in, and the issue of no end product with the other players that cost us the match in the long run (we could have easily equalised at the very least given the opportunities we had) For me, Daniel Sturridge was the biggest contributer to our failure. He kept the ball to himself, continually went for a strike outside of the box and missed 99% of the time even though other players were available on the wings positioned much better. You might choose Harry Kane as his free kicks are abysmal. You might choose Sterling as he manages to get control of the ball but for only about 5 seconds before giving it away or doing nothing constructive with it (and for his premium possibly the biggest offender of the lot) You might choose Smalling or Cahill for the shoddy defence. Or perhaps Rooney as we all expected much better from him (although he was positioned poorly) One thing is for sure - Woy Hodgson obviously contrubuted largely in the failure of this team and Harts goalkeeping is very shoddy but id like to see which players people think have largely underperformed and caused us such an embarrasing and pathetic loss last night. |

Hart ?
Still worst of the bunch imo especially for an experienced player at tournament level. |

iThought Rooney was poor but then so was Kane, Dier, Sturridge.................. and as for Sterling what anyone sees in him is beyond me.
Only one player, Rashford, really seemed to show fighting spirit and attacking desire and Woy only gave him a few minutes. Sadly the England set-up may well turn him from a great young prospect to another spineless wimp. |

I've Left hart out as we all know he was terrible and I'm trying to determine the reason why we couldn't put the ball away not why they put the ball away

Why include the rest of the defence then?

Rest of the defence served a role in the attack with loss of posession, IMO, so included them in the poll too.

Its hard to single out one but I went with sterling, not even sure why he was taken tbh, out of form for mancity and wasn't even getting in the city team.
The fact is not one player who played a lot of minutes can say they played well and had a good tournament. Where was the form the tottenham players showed during the season?? |

I'm trying to remember what Dele Alli did of note during the tournament, other than look a bit clumsy with the ball, and I think all he managed was to miscontrol the ball that spilled to Sturridge to score against Wales.
Kane struggled largely due to a lack of service, I reckon, except for his dead balls which were simply awful. Who let him think he could hit the Ronaldo/Bale topspin free kick? |

Had to go with Kane because he was the one we thought might make a difference this time. Played like shite but he was tired apparently, awww diddums.
By the way Hodgson was the highest paid manager at the Euro's. What a bunch of muppets the FA are. |

Harry Kane for me, with Dele Alli close behind.
We all knew Sterling was rubbish and should never have been taken. That one's on Roy. Likewise we knew the defence was weak and most of the others produced a bit of something over the course of the tournament, even though it obviously wasn't good enough. But Kane was utterly useless. |

Watch him bang home a load of free-kicks for Spurs next season now. Pinpoint corners, the works.

Harry Kane without a shadow of a doubt. I still have my head in my hands wondering why it took until the 87th minute for Woy to bring Rashford on...

Has to be Harry Kane
Mentally and physically exhausted after Spurs failed title bid. Sterling was crap but he was crap all last season so can't see why it's a surprise he just carried that form forward to the tournament. |

But it was Kane for me - to answer the question. Alli was disappointing too. Only Walker, Dier, Lallana, Clyne and Rooney (1st 3 games) impressed me. None of them were phenomenal but they were pretty good (barring Iceland). I'm not a fan of Sturridge on the right either. He's a striker and that's his position as far as I'm concerned. I know he has played there for his clubs at times but I've never liked him in that position. |

No contest - Harry Kane by a country mile.
Iceland's 12th man last night with his appalling free kicks etc. |

Milner's ten minutes were abysmal and set the ball rolling.
Hart and Kane were terrible, Sterling almost as bad. I cannot think of any contribution of note from Deli Alli. |

I understand why some are saying Kane but i disagree. He's had no service, nothing at all. Sterling was shocking throughout, he did nothing right. I would put Sterling's performances up there with the worst i have ever seen in an England shirt. He picked up the ball, ran and then lost it, that is all he did.
I don't think it helps that Hodgson abandoned the system that got us to the Euro's in the first place. We hadn't played Rooney in midfield or a 4-3-3 throughout the whole qualifying stage but Hodgson thought it was a good idea to do these things in the Euro's. Players aren't going to get used to a system they have never played in or a system that doesn't actually suit them in a few games. |

Many were rubbish but Sterling, Rooney and Hart deserve a special mention.
My nomination though has to go to Harry Kane, he surpassed everyone in the crapness stakes. I would go as far to say that his performance against Iceland was probably the worst of any England player in history. We would have fared better if he was sent off in the 1st minute and we played the rest of the match with 10 men. He was a complete liability and managed to sabotage nearly every attack, corner and free kick. Anybody would have been better than Harry Kane - even my gran and she's dead. |

I was disappointed with what Jack Wiltshire offered
For someone who is supposed to have that extra something that unlocks defences, he was a huge let down |

Can't we just say everybody bar Rashford (he did more in his few minutes than everybody else in the entire second half last night)?
But especially Rooney, Kane, Hart, Sturridge, Wilshire (I never would have taken either of them) and Milner. |

I wonder if Hodgson still felt guilty about his alleged criticism of Sterling's energy levels and picked him to show faith in him. Then felt he had to give him another chance in the team to boost his confidence after failing so badly in the first two games. |

So Harry Kane is our best free kick taker
Where is the evidence to back this up |
