I mean Max, Phil, Buster. Do the writers have a fetish?

The writers probably look like those characters and use them to live out their fantasies.

Buster is gross.
He must exude a charming perfume of fag smoke, fish guts and the BO aroma of Shirley's sheets - even Phil said she smelled... |

I never ever got the love for Max. Looks aside, because in the end beauty (or lack of it) only goes so far, he's just disgusting. Awful manners, awful voice, awful walk, awful morals, looks unwashed, has no personality. I really don't get it. Buster is yet another head scratcher. Kathy Beale looks amazing for her age. Why the hell would she be sniffing around someone who smells like fish and looks like he hasn't washed in decades? ![]() Phil getting his paws on Kara Tointon's character was ridiculous but I think his power and alpha male status is probably appealing to women. Phil is a complete bastard but he can be quite funny in my opinion. I never understood Shirley's obsession with him though. Quote:

Maybe because they remind their multiple women of King Phelan of Corination Street?
![]() Only without his massive manhood. ![]() But seriously, what is it with this obsessive idea that irrespective of who you are, being bald automatically and in all cases instantly turns you into some sort of m*nge-repellent sub-human monster? Never seems to have stopped Bruce Willis, The Rock, Jason Statham, Harry Hill et al being babe magnets.

I've noticed ![]() Age is a cruel thing isn't it.... ![]() Although to be fair, I don't think he actually is all that old, just hasn't aged very well. Can't agree with you about Max though. I know at face value, he's not what would be described as handsome, but I think his charm lies in the fact that he's a bit of a rogue, and actually I think his voice is a bit sexy tbh! I love the way he smirks as well. ![]() I think Phil has lost it now, but back when he was trying it on with Sharon, he was so bloody sexy! (even with that beard..) |

The obsession Sharon and Shirley have with Phil gets on my tits.
He can't be with both of them and it's doing Shirley's character no favours constantly reverting back to Shirley wants Phil. Over the past two years Sharon has actually surpassed her in the doormat stakes but if Shirley keeps sniffing around, she's going to reclaim the crown. I can't believe she is still carrying a torch for him. The writers should have invested in Shirley/Buster who did have a genuine spark when Buster first arrived. I think with Phil it probably is the money but that in itself is a major SOR. Where does it all come from? He can go from being skint to having an endless supply of dough in the blink of a storyline. |

When the Stacey/max affair was discussed the actors said it was the confidence (at least before Max went to prison) - that he walked around in suits, sold insurance, teenagers/young adults crushed on him because he's like a father figure and I did like the close friendship Max and Stacey had post stax.
Buster seems like a kind hearted, easy going person. He seems particularly kind to women though why he got together with that nasty Shirley in the first place I will never know. Phil - total mystery, although in Sharon's case I suppose that she has known him for years and dated him on and off plus he showed both Ian and Sharon kindness when Lucy and Dennis died. |

The Philth does not have one single redeeming feature, yet TPTB seem to think he is the greatest romantic hero on the screen since Rudolph Valentino.
Like most aspects of his character it got boring years and years ago. At least Buster and Max have a modicum of charm - all Mitchell can offer is guaranteed emotional (and sometimes physical) abuse. |

You sure are. Epitome of male beauty, them two. Kim Kardashian wouldn't be able to resist either of them.
