Quarter-Final: Poland vs Portugal - (30/6/16) KO 8pm, ITV1/HD
Right, here we go then, the first of the Quarter-Final ties. The inquests and recriminations with England continue but there's still a tournament to be won here!
Coverage of the game will also be broadcast online at ITV Hub and on BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT. This is the 11th meeting between the nations. Portugal have had marginally the better of the teams' 10 previous encounters, winning 4 and losing 3. The two most recent games ended in draws: a 2-2 in Lisbon in Euro 2008 qualifying and a 0-0 in Warsaw in February 2012. Through to their first European Championship quarter-final, Poland are targeting a first semi-final at a major tournament since 1982. They are the lowest scoring side to have made it to the quarter-finals (3 goals in 4 games) and have never scored more than 1 goal in a single game at a Euros in 10 matches. Portugal are the only team to have reached the quarter-finals of the Euros in every tournament since 1996. They have the chance to reach the semi-finals for the fifth time in seven European Championship finals. They are unbeaten in their 11 competitive fixtures under Fernando Santos (W8, D3). All eight of their wins in that run have been by a single-goal margin. |

Good stat re Portugal being the only team to reach the quarters every time since '96.
The only silver lining about England the other day is that it wasn't Portugal who knocked us out! Come on Poland! |

Portugal are a terrible team and completely unpredictable because they usually only score goals by chance and have no game plan whatsoever. Poland, on the other hand, didn't even deserve to beat Switzerland. It's a tough call.

C'mon Ronaldo, all you have to do is have a great tournament, maybe lift the title and you'll be rewarded with another Ballon d'Or.

I strongly fancy Portugal to win this but it might extra time or penalties to separate them.

I've got a horrible vision of Portugal 1-0ing it all the way to the trophy, exorcising the nightmare of Greece 12 years ago while Ronaldo then wipes his arse with printouts of people laughing at him missing that penalty in the group stage.
Alternatively, Milik and Lewandowski may finally look in a mirror and remember that they're actually good forwards rather than finishing chances like me. |

0-0 all the way until the last minute of extra time where the ball slides in off either Ronaldo's ego or Nani goes for a cross & the ball loops in.

I don't know why everyone is tipping Portugal for the final. They are a terrible team with a manager whose tactical know-how could only rival Hodgson and Ronaldo is in very questionable form. You just never know what mood they will turn up in and in my view, they can only win games through some accidental divine intervention.

Poland for me. 11/4 I think. Feels pretty evenly matched but I think Poland defend better.

Due to reasons already mentioned on the QF predictions thread; (Polish friend; Ronaldo, basically!) )would really like Portugal out. Not overly confident, though. Not many people expecting much of a game, so hey, maybe it'll be a stunner! 4-4 AET, Poland win 5-4 on penalties (oh no! He missed again!) will do me.

Watching the ITV debate. I think it's a combo of what they're all saying. Players get everything handed to them AND the players had no leadership on and off the pitch. Sums it up for me.
