I have a new respect for Pepe this tournament. He's doing a real solid job for his team.

Yep, Pepe is a much better player when he cuts out all the unpleasant messing about.

Respectable first half.

Decent half, that. Hopefully it doesn't tail off in the second forty-five.

Who here thinks Ronaldo will score the winner

Either in the second half

In extra time

Or

In the Penalty shootout

Pretty Good half and 1-1 is fair enough. Hope it doesn't get too nervy and defensive...

It's very possible

That he might indeed

Score the winning goal

In this match.

Don't really understand why Renato Sanches has featured so little in this tournament. Manager cant have much faith in him. Kid looks a talent though.

I thought he was Portugal's best player against Croatia - and he only came on as a substitute.

I think the manager did not want to play him in first two matches

Maybe to save him for the tougher matches as he is still young

I think it has been good man managment from the coach

Would have needed a hell of a strike to beat the keeper at his near post from that angle.

Guys how was that incident in the 1st half a penalty?? The "cross" was about 5 metres over Ronaldo's head he was never going to get on the end of it, barge or no barge.

He got pushed in the box, whether he could get the ball or not doesn't stop something being a foul.

I'd love if this could be a defence "Yes I did punch his lights out ref, but come on, he was never going to get the ball!"

Nah.
Now the incident vs Austria is a definite penalty as Ronaldo would have been able to have an attempt at the low cross, but if the cross was delivered and it was shanked about 10 metres above Ronaldo, and the Aus defender still yanked back Ronaldo, i can GUARANTEE the ref wouldn't give a penalty.

Ronaldo's change into his lucky short sleeves doesn't seem to have made much difference. Decent biceps though, I guess

It's not American Football where you can hit anyone, in football a foul is a foul whether that player has the ball or not.

Talking of extra time, I liked the Copa America rule where, if a game goes to extra time, you are given an extra sub.

Poland play some nice football in the build-up. Portugal really do not.
