Hi Guys

Im about to be given the Sonos playbar as a present, I currently have the Yamaha V575 AV amp with the KEF Egg speakers including its sub

Its currently a brilliant sound system but the wires are a problem.

What would you advise? Ditch the amp and speakers?

We can give personal opinions but that is all they are. You are the one who has to live with whatever choice you make.

Personally I would ditch the Sonos and keep the Yamaha/Kef system. You would lose the versatility of the Yamaha to handle your kit and also the surround sound ability of your existing system assuming you are using the 5.1 or even 7.1 output capability of the amp.

Why is someone giving you a Sonos sound bar when you have already got a superior system? If the problem is just the surround speakers' wires, park them near the front ones pointing outwards for most TV viewing and pull them out for serious 5.1 viewing. Even parked there they will sound better than any sound bar.

Why? Because I'm referring business to a client of ours and this is my reward for it

He's going to get the sound bar and sub. I'm hoping some 1s too but who knows

To the best of my knowledge much better but someone else may think otherwise.

The Sonus has no support for DTS or higher quality Dolby True HD, so if these audio formats are important to you then you'd be better off keeping the Yamaha. Connection is very basic, no HDMI only one optical.

Other than that it's pretty good at filing a room, not as good as other soundbars at around the same price and definitely no substitute for a dedicated 5.1/7.1 setup.

I'd keep the current setup.

In terms of what it can do there is no contest between the Yamaha/Kef and the Sonos. The Yamaha allows you to plug in all your peripheral kit and extract pretty much any commonly used surround format. The Sonos has very limited connection capability and is just as limited in the surround formats it can handle.

Not having heard the Sonos I can't comment on it's sound quality. But Yamaha and Kef are both very well respected in that area so I would be not at all surprised if they are better then the Sonos.

If you want a proper surround sound experience and possibly higher sound quality then stick with what you've got. If all you are interested in is convenience, minimal facilities and possibly not the top flight sound quality go for the Sonos.

For me the Yamaha/Kef combo wins every time. But you may have different priorities and needs.
