I suspect BB suggested to Alex that he should be the one to get involved, to give him a bit of air "speaking" time, as they know how ineffective as a hm he is, but it took a while to persuade him.

How ? I like Hughie more than i do Alex but Hughie went from 1-100 for no real reason at all. Hughie went completely over the top.

Thats just how Hughie is though, he was right. At least Hughie was actually involved and knew what happened. Alex went in like a deer in headlights, tried to start an argument then told hughie to stay out of it when he was trying to explain what happened. Alex then bottled it and stood in the middle of everyone arguing not knowing what to do then resorted to saying "go to the diary room Hughie son" mocking him.

But Alex didn't go in there looking for an argument. He simply asks if there is a problem with the fish bowl thing because Sam said there was. That isn't looking for an argument, that is just asking if there is a problem. Watch it back, this is exactly how it happened. And if Hughie was shouting in my face like that, i would be telling him to go into the diary room too. Just because he didn't shout back in Hughie's face, it doesn't mean that he bottled it, he just acted in a more mature way.
