Our English national side could learn many lessons from this Welsh side.

A team with half the talent pool/depth and they play twice as good.

England's players should be ashamed...

Big congrats to Wales.

Englan players should not be ashamed of anything!
They crumbled, just like many others have done before.
They have a massive mental problem. not a heart problem.

What a load of old tosh this thread is, if Wales can keep qualifying for Euros and World Cups for the next 20 years then fair enough, but we could just as easily be on here next summer taking about where it all went wrong for Wales in their World Cup Qualifiers.

A mental problem caused by what?

A media and public conditioned to tear them apart to the point that they'd be better off never making themselves available for international football in the first place.

Threads like this do Wales' achievement a discredit. Can't we just appreciate what they've done rather than use it to bash England?

What Wales have basically proved is how important topping the group is.

England would probably have gone out against France in the quarters anyway, but if they had topped the group, who knows maybe they would have beaten N.Ireland and Belgium.

That's an interesting point.

Is the success of Wales - and Iceland, for that matter - at Euro 2016 a rare anomaly or are both they and other hitherto lowly nations now here to stay for subsequent Euros and World Cups?

I can't help thinking back to the 2002 World Cup, when you had Senegal, the USA and South Korea all making the quarter finals and none of them have really done a thing in the World Cup since.

And what have Greece really done since they won Euro 2004?

I suppose we won't start to know until the World Cup qualifying campaign is in full swing.

Why not do both?

Probably, but Wales are now top scorers in these Euros.

It doesn't really add up because;

a.) Other teams who are big football nations get teared apart from the media and public as well if they don't perform in a major tournament.
b.) England didn't cave in and fall apart against Italy in Euro 2012.

I think Wales deserve all the credit they get.Top scorers in the competition.Remember Belgium are rated number two in the world and were completely outplayed.Chris Coleman showed others how to manage brilliant substitution's so do not be surprised if they beat Portugal who would only be a average team without Ronaldo.

Last time England played with true courage and desire in a tournament was when Beckham got sent off in France 98 the ten men held off Argentina for 70 minutes before going out on pens.

FIFA rankings you just take with a pinch of salt...but on paper Belgium had the better players.

The media and public react to their national team in other countries, they're set up to fail here under the hilarious guise of 'England Expects'. Raheem Sterling's photo was used by The Sun to illustrate a story of a drug dealer who used to play football that has absolutely no reference or link to Sterling in any way. It's poison.

Don't get me wrong though, it's also mostly for football reasons. A lack of organisation and structure, someone said about square pegs and round holes which covers England for at least the past 15 years.

You do realise that a few years back the Welsh media tore Coleman to shreds, the fans wanted him sacked and they booed the players off the pitch when they took a beating.

How things can change. He and the team had the balls to fight back. This notion that no England manager or team will ever be a success because of the media is, frankly, poppycock !
