Since 1976 actually.

40 years and counting.
Germany unbeaten in pens since 1982. Gits.
They said they hadn't missed a pen at all since 1982.

1976 was panenka!

Is that the last of Buffon

He'll be 40 when Russia 2018 comes around.

The only 4 players on the pitch today who play in England all missed their penalty (Ozil, Schweinsteiger, Pelle, Darmian)

Hmmm
I'm gonna blame Zaza for their missed penalties. His penalty was so atrocious - Ozil, Schweinsteiger, Pelle and Darmian were still in shock and simply couldn't concentrate.

I think Italy have only had 2 goalies in the last 50 years.

Zoff and Buffon.

I may well be wrong of course, It just seems like it.

A super-sub by Conte the world-class-manager

It was the only time he touched the ball.
Too right, gemma. An inspired sub by the Saviour of Chelsea .

I hope a team in the Premier League signs Zaza, if only to see him take another penalty like that. That boy has entertainment value.

Everyone hates Germany
Because they do what a joke of our football team can't do, as I say we should be ashamed.

That's because they're better than everyone at everything.
People need to get over it and admire them. I do.

Let's face it, for England it's 52 years of hurt at least, and counting......

Yeah, it does feel like Buffon's been around forever.

I'm shocked Angelo Peruzzi didn't get more caps for Italy. He was a top keeper for Juventus back in the day.

Was at the Brandenburg Gate for the match tonight and it's enough to make me hope Germany are champions

I don't believe everyone hates Germany, I don't.

That was a massive tactical battle tonight which Germany at least edged in open play.
I'm not sure if that was the best or worst penalty shootout I've ever watched but Germany had to kick 4 to stay in the tournament.

I think Germany are successful because they are the 'big' nation that nearly always plays like a team.

I'm just heartbroken

Too upset to even discuss this game

Now I'm rooting for France or Portugal to win it. If it's a Wales v Germany final I'm not even going to watch

Germany deserved that.
Both teams showed their quality during the 120 minutes and how not to freeze on a big occasion.

Yeah yeah

Germany are clearly the strongest team in this tournament and Italy had the weakest team for ages plus no De Rossi. But they could so easily have won that

I can't see anyone stopping Germany bar France (and even that is a big maybe given their defence and style of play).

Italy went out with heads held high. Germany have been my favourites since prior to the tournament.
Thank you Italy for getting rid of Spain!

I honestly don't think we can discount Portugal sliming their way to the title playing woeful football.

Maybe, Portugal are the only team in the last four who haven't really played well for any length of time in the tournament but they only have to play well twice to win the trophy!

I think Germany are the best team but they have lost key players for the semis. I would like a Wales v Germany final.

Does it ever occur to you to think before you hit the submit button?

Italy have a lot of promising young keepers but Buffon is a legend and still showing he's more than capable.

Well it was a reasonable question

As twenty years ago, Italy had so many great goalkeepers they could choose from like

Gianluca Pagliuca
Angelo Peruzzi
Walter Zenga
Luca Marchegiani
Francesco Toldo
Sebastiano Rossi
