Strange footwear chosen by young ladies these days!
I couldn't help noticing on much of the Glastonbury Festival recordings I've been watching recently that many girls have taken to wearing enormous footwear. Nice becoming outfits set off by ungainly boots.
Ellie Goulding was one case in point, but the most outstanding example was Lauren Mayberry of Chvrches who looked really pretty in a sweet white outfit that blew charmingly in the breeze of the Glastonbury stage, but her footwear would have made Popeye's Olive Oyl quite envious! Is this the latest fashion trend or is it confined to girls in the entertainment industry? |

I haven't seen your examples but I've seen others and I know exactly what you mean. Delicate outfits and massive clumpy fugly boots. I've seen it while out and about. Definitely a trend I'll leave to the young'uns!

That trend has been about for a while. Its to keep outfits with floaty feminine elements from looking twee.

Ive seen two examples this weekend of something worse. Something much much worse.
Hoof boots or hoof shoes. Yes, shoes with a slit where the third toe is making a hoof. A hoof! Yes, a hoof! This cannot be allowed to continue, they make me feel ill. |

One of my friends wore big black boots to her school prom - this was 8 years ago.

Big boots are obviously back again for a while, but this time worn with pretty pretty outfits which accentuate the at-odds look I was referring to in my original post. |

When I went to Glastonbury in 1990 I would guess that the overwhelming majority of footwear worn by both girls and boys came from Army Surplus shops. Some of those ex-paratrooper boots were enormous.

It used to be pretty much standard in the 1980s, usually very short skirts matched with ripped fishnet tights and DMs.

I think this would even be true for the stars, unless someone is going to carry them to the stage, or if they changed their footwear when they arrived at the stage. But it's always been the thing to do to wear wellingtons or big boots at Glastonbury anyway! |
