Watching Red Rock on BBC 1 just now.

So far there's been too much police and hospital for my liking as I much prefer day-to-day stuff in soaps. Didn't actually realise that the show centred around the police station. I'll give it a bash though as I've heard good things.

However, I love how the show is shot and its general visual feel. The direction and editing is fantastic, especially the blue/grey tone in most shots. Gives the show a very contemporary feel. It's like a mix of a Nordic Noir like The Bridge and a French police series like PJ.

Also, lots of handsome men

Loving it so far.

Some quite understated and funny comedy among the drama.

The guy taking three attempts to climb over the wall and Sharon (?) just standing watching and then the brick on the floor of the pub

'Is this the brick they used?'
'No, that's the brick we keep on the floor'

I'd forgotten how good the opening episodes were and how the series hit the ground running.

Paudge and his one liners are one of the highlights of the show, he's a very lazy and reluctant Garda

Nope. Debbie Wiseman did the Red Rock theme tune anyway and it wasn't changed earlier.

Paudge and Series 1 Patricia are my favourites!

I read somewhere before that Damien Dempsey had written the Red Rock theme but that info must have been bogus then.

I've just watched the first episode (well first two really) on I player, and I have to agree with soap -lea in that I'm not yet sure whether I'll like it. Granted, It's still early days and It could be a grower, but needless to say, I certainty wasn't "hooked" by the first two episodes.
However, I did like the number of plots that were set - up in the episodes and am intrigued as to see where they go, I also liked the humour as well "that's the other brick that we keep on the floor" But again, I wasn't crazy about the Romeo & Juliet style set- up with the two feuding families and the forbidden love story, but by no means was It a write - off, It was decent, just not brilliant (Imo of course)

I will continue watching however, as I feel It could be a slow burner and has the potential to be very good.

6/10 for the first eps from me

It was only OK. I'll give it a few more episodes to get going.

Some of the acting I found a bit iffy but I watch other shows where I forgive that if the storylines are good enough. As I say I'll give it a few more chances before I give up.

This was as corny as "The Thin Blue Line," with all the usual stereotypes, bad acting, but without the jokes.
and there's forty episodes of this?

Bloody hell, it was the first episode! No soap is perfect from the outset, they take a while to warm up. What I will concede is that some of the actors are better than others - like any other soap - but as time goes on you will see how brilliant some of the actors are - like any other soap - and bear in mind for many of the actors in this show, it is their very first job - like any other soap.

I don't think it's a soap in the more traditional sense like UK big three for instance. It appears to be just a sequel drama like 90210 or Happy Valley. From what I've seen it looks like it requires investment like any new series, however it's not an instant hit. Not something I can see myself sticking with.

If I remember correctly, the first episode of Eastenders was very low key and not much of note happened, it was little more than a scene setter (they've shown clips from it in a few documentaries over the years).

Absolutely. And of course there's nothing wrong with 'Episode 1' being a scene setter. Different strokes etc. But let's not forget the acting and writing in Episode 1 of EastEnders wasn't brilliant either.

Nobody could have predicted the show would pull in an audience of 30m viewers for a single episode two years later, from such an inauspicious start. I'm sure many people wondered if the show would even survive or was just another flash in the pan.

Each to their own, I thought it was rubbish. But if you liked it, that's fine by me.

I liked it. It is god to see soaps from other countries. Also after visiting Ireland several times I have come to appreciate they way they act and tell their stories. In some cases they get away with alot more than we do in England.
On my last visit last year we caught a comedy cop show called Mattie, not that is more Thin Blue Line. My cousin sent me over the DVD and we finally watched it at the weekend. It is brilliant, silly at times but just brill. Red Rock will have a harder edge and I lok forward to watching it.
I see we have some of the Doctors watchers on here as well. It won't be long until we are back in the lunchtime slot. As Miranda says 'Bear with' or 'Bare with' whatever

I've watched it since it started in Ireland 18 months ago. It's not the first time I've seen it.

I watched live today, and I must say I thought It was a much better episode, a vast improvement on yesterday's underwhelming opener, the 40 minutes flew by! I had a feeling It would be a slow burner.
Episode 2 - 8/10

Remember tomorrow's episode is on BBC2 at the usual time of 1:45pm.
