Wow, I have just caught up on the final episode after a binge watch yesterday and today.
I originally started to watch the show as it is Irish, and I always give Irish shows a chance as the are shown few and far between over here. After two BBC type episodes, I became hooked and have become one of the converted - it is an excellent show.
I nearly missed the fortnight of shows that were moved to BBC2, as my telly recorder is an old one and while it can series link okay, it cannot series link from one station to another, so I have to divvy up quick with using the Iplayed and working out which episode related to the first BBC2 one.
Got there in the end, and I am so glad I did. I had thought that after McGonigle had been caught that that would be the end of the interest for me, as it was such a strong storyline in the first series (TV3 style). But no, I have developed an interest and love for most of the characters, which kept hooked until I watched the final episode this afternoon.
Now I am a big butch Irishman (one of those adjectives is a lie

) and normally do not tear up over most TV drama. I caved in on this one. The acting in the last episode was so good, that I had to pause the programme for a while to dry my eyes, especially the scene where they raised the tricolour outside the station.
I know that there are ways and means to watch the new TV3 series, which starts this week, but myself, I will hang on until January as, to be honest, I have neglected other videos and DVDs of other programmes, to concentrate on this, and I really need to do a catch up elsewhere.
Great show, and as someone said on another posting, the Irish should be proud that we were able to produce a drama of as great quality as this. It is especially impressive for TV3, as they are normally an Irish version of Channel 5, and I would not have expected anything of the like of this from them (but I think that the Irish Government grant and the support from Costcutter (source - Irish Times 11 Sept 2016, but unable to find an online link) and the Irish Daily Mail helped.
Only 3 1/2 months to go. The new series should brighten up the normally dull January days, and will be something to look forward after the busy-fest of Christmas.
And for Christmas, I will be asking for a new digital recorder which can series-link between BBC1 and BBC2, as well.
