BT Cloud Help

Arrghh I want to use my 100GB allowance, but they make it so frustrating!

All I want to do, is take the 30GB of photos I have on my PC, upload them to my cloud, then remove them from my PC.

The sync option works a treat, but then deletes the photos when I remove them from my PC.

I have even tried an individual folder sync - same things happen - everything from my cloud gets removed as soon as I remove it from my PC.

All I want to is have an online backup without having them on my PC! (I already have them backed up to an external too).

Any ideas? Thanks

You can do it manually via My BT (BT Cloud section) where there's a browser link. It's a drag and drop browser interface, just don't do it via the BT Cloud folder on your PC. My BT is down at present though, I assume they are updating all their increased prices this weekend.

How though? I have to manually select files, I can't upload folders.

I was under the impression if you dragged a folder on your pc, to the bt cloud folder, it uploads them and removes them from your PC, giving you more hard drive space - is this correct? If so, can you then not view all the files in the bt cloud folder on your pc if you're offline?

In the web browser (not the BT Cloud App and not using the BT Cloud folder) I just click "add collection", name it, then highlight, drag and drop whatever files I want from that folder into the new collection. You then have all the files in the cloud and on your PC.

I don't use the BT Cloud application but I think there is an "auto backup" option, and that should ensure that any changes in the BT Cloud folder or sub folders are reflected in the cloud backup, and that you can still view the files on your PC. I have no idea if direct changes to the Cloud files (e.g. via the browser interface) also change your PC files in the BT Cloud folder... but they might do! Try it and see.

That's why I do everything directly via the web browser using btcloud.bt.com, it gives me full control. I also use 7-zip to group files together, and I can password protect the 7-zip files too, if I want to.

If the files are in the cloud and no longer on your PC then I would of thought it obvious that you won't be able to view them while offline without downloading them first.
Unless of course it leaves a low rez image behind.

So I can't use the web based version to upload a folder (rather than a file) which has a load of sub folders in? This is the issue I have - I have one folder with around 25 different folders full of GB's of photos.

What I meant by that, is that when I move folders to the bt cloud sync folder, does the original local version get deleted, meaning there's just an online version in the sync folder?

No I don't think so - but you can zip the main folder including everything within it, to a single zip file or 7-zip file and upload that instead. All folders, files and sub folders are preserved that way.

There is a maximum filesize you can upload, not sure what it is but I have several 5 GB files on there so that may be it. You can incidentally get 7-zip to split the compressed file into as many chunks as you like, then recombine into one when you download them, so even that isn't really much of a limitation.

I might have to buy a onedrive subscription or something. At least that way I can then view the images on any device with ease.
