Just been on to VM CS, my TiVo has rebooted itself a couple of times recently. Spoke to a tech support bloke, who said I could order the V6 box today, but it would cost me £150 - WTF! He said the full info would be on the VM website from tomorrow, but I don't think I'll be bothering...

Just called VM and they told me the good news is that they can give me a new box immediately (in fact two, because I have a second room box), however the bad news is they don't have an engineer unit January 5th. Do I really need an engineer ?

I don't really see why they need an 'Engineer' all it needs is to connect 3 or 4 cables to it.
1 Power
2 Cable
3 TV output
4 Ethernet cable (optional)

I don't think it needs a qualified Engineer/Technician to do that, I'll phone to enquire about getting a V6 tomorrow. I can argue the case for a self install because as it happens I am qualified in Electronics Servicing.

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to why many people seem to be getting the v6 box free, and why I've been told it'll cost me £150? (I'm on the XL package if it makes any difference)

Can anyone confirm if content from your existing tivo box can be transferred over to a new v6?
Recordings can't no.

It can't only series links and thumbs
At the moment there is a fault that means that my Series Links, Wishlists and Thumbs up settings were not transferred across.

They strung me along for 14 days (when the data disappears anyway) and then made out that I was being unreasonable for expecting this as "everybody knows that you have to input everything again when you get a new box". This was after being told that this service has "never been available"!

So, be warned everyone, you need to make a note of these things or you'll end up missing programmes like I have.

After a formal complaint, I received a credit for the inconvenience.

From what I can work out it costs £99.95 (£49.95 for those on XL) per box and a one off 'activation fee' of £14.99 however many boxes you get.

They also told my that self install is not available. No idea why
This is correct. Manned installs normally cost another £40 when self install is available.

In this case, because VM are insisting on a manned install, you should receive a £40 credit to negate the charge.

This credit will cease when self install becomes available.

Does anyone have a definitive answer as to why many people seem to be getting the v6 box free, and why I've been told it'll cost me £150? (I'm on the XL package if it makes any difference)
AIUI in your case it should be £49.95 + £14.99 + £40 - £40= £64.94.

There have been lots of reports of people being told allsorts of rubbish by Customer Services.

Eg "You can't order it until January 2017, "It's not availablea yet, were still testing it" and a whole host of weird and wonderful pricing quotes.

I believe that this is because of a mixture of staff not receiving any training and the codes not being available at the start that they need to input onto your account to order the V6.

Some staff have also been inputting the wrong codes.

I advise everyone to check their bills very, very carefully.

We now have a situation where some customers paying £150 a month are being told they cannot even order a V6 and to come back in January 2017, some orders are being accepted but customers are being vastly overcharged and some are being telephoned and offered an installation of a V6 for free within days.

Yes, I'm fully aware that I could self-install (IT, and networking in particular, is my business) but I guess rules is rules

According to this article, the V6 actually has eight tuners:

Good old VM, they couldn't have timed this rollout better !

Everyone is getting their box in January - just after they've loaded up their old box with all the Xmas recordings, and no way then to watch them

I kept the existing tivo and replaced a v+ for 67.94 and a £5 pcm increase. Had to leave the install until January though as I needed a Saturday visit

it says "What's more, each box has its own TV tuners, so increases the number of programmes you can record at the same time. In our previous example, with a V6 box and TiVo box in the same set-up, you can record up to nine shows simultaneously - three on the TiVo box and six on the V6."

and it has six as I had one for a couple of weeks

They must have more engineers in your area - or less customers !

I think it's just the luck of the draw, a friend of mine who lives just under a Mile away recently had to wait two weeks for an engineer to visit.

The old TiVo was self-install, and the new one shouldn't be any harder. The hard disk failed on mine a month or so ago and that was self-install.

That is annoying. On the other hand, with a new box they may be worried about teething problems. If that led to not having TV over Christmas, people would complain.

Looks to me like you've been incorrectly charged £40 because it's a manned installation.

This should only be charged when you have the option to self install and choose not to, but you don't currently get this choice with the V6.

I also don't understand why your bill has gone up by £2, two TiVos out and two V6's in should cost exactly the same (unless upgrading has affected some sort of loyalty discount).

Very disappointed with the pricing for the V6 box.

I would have thought that signing a new 18 month contract for the top package would more than compensate for the loss of a £65 fee.

I would definitely sign up for the new contract if the box was offered but I'm blowed if I'd pay £65 for the privilege.

Also, I'd love to know why some customers seem to be randomly picked to get them free!

BTW, how can you find out when your contract is up? Can you do it online?

I rang up and just been told to go online and register my interest, and I will get a call . They don't seem to care that I've told them that I registered on the day the site went live.

Rang up Virgin Media and had to hang up so rude and unhelpful! I rang up and the second person said they could order the V6 but I would loose my Virgin Partners discount (£17 a month) and I would have to pay nearly £70 on top of that for install!

So looks like I am stuck with clunky TiVo
