I want to wait and see if they offer me one for free but knowing my luck they won't. Don't want to call as I don't want to be charged
I doubt that the phone calls to offer free boxes is ongoing after the official launch date of the V6 which has passed. I've certainly heard no reports of people being offered free boxes since that launch.

If you currently have a Tivo box, are you able to just keep it for no extra charge?

When we replaced a faulty Tivo we had all sorts of trouble, as we wanted to keep it because there was so much stuff on it we hadn't watched yet. Long story, ending up with formal complaint and some compensation.

If you can keep the Tivo box, and so increase storage as part of getting a new box, that might swing it.

I don't know if this counts as a free box, but this is what happened to me. I called retentions last week, saying that I was disappointed with the pricing on the V6, thought it might be free to customers on the top package, Sky had made me a very good offer, etc, etc. The v.nice bloke I spoke to said that he couldn't change the cost of the box at all, but he COULD adjust the cost of my subscription to offset it.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, I ended up with a deal which means that in the next 18 months, after deducting the £65 cost of the box and installation, I'll be about £88 better off. Better than a free box, I'd say.

BTW, I also kept an existing £2.25 a month discount I already had, so the stories that you always lose any discounts you already have are untrue. The only slight snag was that installation won't be until 20th Jan, but that appears to be pot luck according to where you live.

I phined Virgin yesterday,. As a full house customer, they quoted £80 exactly for a new box plus installation. No other one off costs. Said I could only have one at the moment and it had to replace the primary box.

Unfortunately they also said I would need to pay an extra £6.50 a month so I politely declined.

Did they say exactly what the £6.50 was for?

Everything about the conversation was vague but basically it's because I'm on a promotional rate at the moment until June and that promotional price was based on me having the old box and so a new box meant losing that same promotional rate.

It seems very expensive at the moment for basically offering 4K streaming which most 4K TVs will do anyway and being quicker (Which TIVO needed anyway as it is very slow)

And we're a long way off native 4K channels yet so although I want one, cannot justify the extortionate extra charges when you don't even own the box. (However, if you want to offer me a free one Virgin.... :P)

Personally I do not have the slightest interest in 4K (I have a 4K TV and often don't even bother to switch to the HD channels, let alone 4K) however I would pay double the price for a Tivo that works i.e. doesn't take for ever to navigate the UI. I paid £600 for my first Tivo in 2001 and it was worth every penny, but the current one is ridiculously slow.

Had new V6 boxes installed this morning Engineer had a few problems getting them set up this was solely local network and cable issues not the boxes. Speedwise much faster than TiVo and Menu displays seem crisper with Tivo you press a Menu setting then go and make a drink whilst it loads, with the V6 it's there straight away. A quick check and it allowed me to start recording 6 programmes at once with no clashing or overlap warnings. I just randomly started 6 different channels recording together.
Haven't had time to check out On Demand or Catch up programmes yet.
Minor annoyance having to set up all planned recordings and Series links from scratch, contrary to a posting earlier on these Forums there's no evidence of any backed up settings, if there are any I haven't found them yet.
When I've had more time to check things out I'll post more. One final thing for those using Universal remotes - no problem TiVo settings work perfectly.

You backup and restore your Series Links online with Virgin Anywhere. You have to do it within 14 days of the old box being deactivated.

Having spent a little more time with the V6 I'm quite pleased with it. I've got both boxes linked via WiFi, oddity 1 it shows 5GHz networks in it's list but refuses to connect to them.
Oddity 2 there's a connector on the rear which is labelled SCART output, it's not like any SCART I've seen I've posted a picturte of the rear panel here http://www.bilstononline.co.uk/v6.html as you'll see there's also an Audio output what for I don't know, the separate Digital Audio out works fine though.

Quick answer - It's not free. Read through the various posts on here and you'll see several different answers regarding the cost we're being charged a total of about £154 plus an extra £2 monthly for two V6 boxes.

Thanks

They really love squeezing money out of us , the bills already go up all the time , my internet service has been pretty dreadful the latter part of this year , you would think they would replace the old Tivo boxes for us for free, i will enquire how much it is but i'm not giving them loads more a month tbh

My Tivo box has been playing up so I rang CS last night and asked about the new box, was told it was going to be £150 for a new box plus activation fee, but the CS guy was going to talk to him manager to get a 'special price' - he came back with an offer of £50.

Makes VM look like a market stall in Morocco.

VM are currently working on a secret budget brand with the working title 'Project Prosecco'.

It will be cheaper by offering lower BB speeds etc.

When everyone is on the V6, I can see the old TiVo boxes being used for this

It can be free. I'm being charged zero. Or at least that's what CS said.

MY mistake! I saw a photo a couple of days ago detailing the connections at the rear of the box, and I assumed I'd seen it in the V6 User Guide, but it was in fact somewhere else entirely.

Sorry! In this case, the 'fm' makes no mention of what the connections are for...

The scart is disabled but the analog audio is functioning (ATM) the reason it has the scart is if you have the Horizon software rather than the Tivo

I phoned up Virgin this morning to see what are the Prices for two V6 boxes,
they said including with discounts they will charge me a one-off charge of £155 - the breakdown is below

£49.95 for each box - normally £49.95 for first box then £99.95 for second boxes onwards
54.99 for the install fee as it is still in the launching time

They however said that they might and I mean might be giving the boxes away for free in the future
They also said that the new V6 boxes are not available to new Virgin customers at the moment

I spoke to Virgin Customer Services and not Retentions

I said no thanks, I am prepared to wait a bit longer

My advice is to wait until the prices have come down before getting one

Thanks for that, the connector says SCART but it looks nothing like one, is it some peculiar U.S. design? Probably disabled these ports to stop anybody copying programmes to external media.
