I phoned up Virgin this morning to see what are the Prices for two V6 boxes,
they said including with discounts they will charge me a one-off charge of £155 - the breakdown is below

£49.95 for each box - normally £49.95 for first box then £99.95 for second boxes onwards
54.99 for the install fee as it is still in the launching time

They however said that they might and I mean might be giving the boxes away for free in the future
They also said that the new V6 boxes are not available to new Virgin customers at the moment

I spoke to Virgin Customer Services and not Retentions

I said no thanks, I am prepared to wait a bit longer

My advice is to wait until the prices have come down before getting one
Some packages are only available with a V6 on their website, so CS appear to be wrong in that respect.

From what I've learnt from a VM employee, it should be (if you're on XL/Full House) £49.95 for the first box and £99.95 for the second box. There would also be a connection fee of £14.99 if you wanted an engineer to install it, but this is waived if you use Quickstart and install it yourself.

I've read allsorts of other prices being quoted though.

I've not heard anything about the V6 being given away for free (myself and a few others had one, but this isn't generally done). However, I have heard a rumour that the Telly Tablet may be given away for free.

Re: The scart socket that's for the Horizon software. In time, the TiVo software is to be replaced by the Horizon software.

When this happens, do we know what it will be used for?

What would analogue sound be used for??

That was a mistake. Existing customer should always speak to retentions

Afraid not, they're now available on the VM website, but they're £299.99! Too much for me...

Think it must depend on the package/length of being with VM, been offered 2 x V6 for 1 0ff £50 + £15 one off payment.

As far as I'm aware there is no self install for the V6. Normally if there is a self install option but you want an engineer to install it then it costs £40 I believe but because this isn't an option for the V6 then it shouldn't be applied to any V6 installations.

The prices are -

VIP - 1st box £49.95, 2nd box free, 3rd box £99.95
Full House 200Mb - 1st box £49.95, 2nd box £49.95, 3rd box £99.95
Full House 100Mb - 1st box £99.95, 2nd box £49.95, 3rd box £99.95

There should be no manned instalation charge of £40 and if there is then a £40 credit should be applied to your bill. All of the above have a £14.95 activation fee regardless of the amount of boxes.

That's the official pricing from the Virgin Media community forums.

A good review here on the new V6 box from Techradar.

http://www.techradar.com/reviews/virgin-tv-v6-box

Quite looking forward to my two new V6s being installed on 11 January! Shame about the recordings I will lose, but with six tuners on both boxes, it shouldn't be too difficult to build them up again before the summer lite days arrive!

Reading that review I've just realised that the remote is not IR. This is going to be a pain for my remote link to our bedroom TV which goes over an ethernet extender which includes an IR blaster. What are other people doing re this sort of setup ?

Don't worry, the V6 remote and box work with both IR / RF signals.

Two weeks ago they wanted to charge me £55 for a manned install that is why I declined their offer,
plus they wanted £50 per box that I do not own

I would of paid just the box price though if they kept on insisting,
I will look at the Link above now to see what the correct prices are

What is this big thing with "owning". The box is in your possession for as long as you wish. To all intents and purposes you own it. In a few years time when you want to do something else it will probably be worth diddly squat anyway. If it breaks, they fix it. What's not to like ?

I agree. Why do people want to own it? It's not worth anything if you sell it anyway.

^^ I owned my series 1 TiVo, and that meant I could swap out the hard drive for a bigger one (and did). I wouldn't do that for a box that VM owned.

Yes; and if it went wrong it cost you to fix it. And it didn't only work with cable.

My issue with the £50 (or whatever) fee is that I would prefer for them to send me it and I'll install it myself to save the £50 "engineer" fee.

Why would you want to own the box when Virgin will replace your box for free if it breaks down?

Virgin phoned me this morning and said that my package will change tomorrow
as I currently have a Credit limit of £130 and things will need to be done their end
to change my package from the Big Kahuna package to the VIP plus Premier Sports package

The install will be done in February for both V6 boxes as they are so busy
They said that they will phone me again tomorrow morning at 11 to confirm everything

I do not mind not owning the boxes, at least if I move or it brakes down I will get a new
or a refurbished one in it's place for free

I will keep you posted about the installation

Price that I got told today was free x2 V6 boxes because I am changing packages
Extra Monthly Fee will not be known until tomorrow morning the earliest

Yes I used to do the same (I owned 5 Series 1 Tivos). However, it was a rather different concept. The Series ! was just a linux box and it was dead easy to mess around with it. Not really quite the same with the VM Tivo.

Today was my Tivo V6 install day. Bit of a disaster. I had ordered two boxes but the engineer only had record of one. He could not get the one he intended for me working and tried two others as well. Something about not being registered to his (engineer) id. So he went away at 12:30 promising to come back. It is now 6pm and no sign, and we have no working TV, he took the old box away.

I am still waiting for my call back from Steve at Virgin regarding my install and the change of my package
from the Big Kahuna package to VIP Plus Premier Sports package plus how much is my monthly discount price going to be as the package turns out to be cheaper than my current package according to Virgin's website

On the Virgin website is says that the for the moment the VIP Package is £85 a month,
but my current package is £118 a month without any extras including Sky Sports and Sky Movies in HD and without Premier Sports
