Been following different threads about the new tivo box for sometime hoping to hear some news about a possible release soon and came across this link. Don't know if its just rumour but seems it might be delayed for a while.

EOS has been confirmed for later in 2016 as the 4K box VM will use - and liberty will use it across Europe and Latin America...

it will be under the branding "Virgin TV" here and it is compatible with both Tivo & Horizon platforms..

So they are dropping the Tivo branding from their marketing - looks pretty obvious that the Tivo relationship will end in the next few years.

But what about all the existing Tivo boxes? Might there be an incentive for existing customer to switch to EOS in preparation for a change to Horizon?

It's also been confirmed that the box will be cloud-based - something there's been a lot of speculation about

The link says that the box "can use both Tivo and Horizon UIs" so as long as it looks like a Tivo and acts like a Tivo... Basically, as long as it's a Tivo..

It's also been confirmed that the box will be cloud-based - something there's been a lot of speculation about
No no no no!! I want my recorded shows stored locally, thank you very much.

It looks possible there will be an announcement about the new EOS box tomorrow.

With Sky 4k launching this weekend, I doubt the timing is a coincidence.

As long as it doesn't cost any more than my Tivo I'll be happy. Be even happier if they would transfer all my existing recordings onto the new box. Yeah, I know. Not gonna happen
You can transfer across your Series Links etc if that's any help:

http://help.virginmedia.com/system/s...MER_TYPE=Cable

The box will be a unified STB across the LGI network, with some regional variations and be able to run both the TiVo and Horizon software.

It certainly will. But I also have a lot of recordings I would like to keep. Never mind, I guess.

Well that was a bit of a let down in terms of detail:
http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/1384...to-rival-sky-q

Have to say I quite like the look of the box and suspect it's actually smaller than first appears.

The box looks like something that was made in the 80's!!! I know its more about how it performs but damn that thing is ugly.

I'll pay it definitely. Can't wait to be able to record more than 3 things and stream.

Don't need 4k. Don't need 6 tuners. Already got 1TB. And I can currently stream to two devices, which is also enough.

I'll be keeping my current box then.

I wouldn't base a decision on a single element of my package - only the combined cost, which I usually only review on an annual basis. It'll be interesting the compare bundle prices with and without the V6 box.

It reminds me of an old friend, which could change channel faster than you could lift your finger off the channel up button and never required a reboot!

News so far is that VM may be pricing the new box too high for many and there are giving two hard drive sizes like TiVo 1 has but stepping up sizes to allow the use of the 6 channels recordings and 4K recording too with the 2TB box may be.

Would say that the prices for TiVo 1 boxes was high at the start with 1TB being top priced.
And a £5 a month for each box plus fixing prices at £99 £49 and other deals.

The shape of the box is better then the TiVo 1 and it looks like the width of the box is smaller then our older TiVo's BUT sadly it looks like the chips and HD need just as much air as the old box with all the air slots seen in images . Which means that another box like Blue ray player can't be put on it .

Looks like we may be getting a display screen on the box by the VM logo which would be helpful to know what the box is doing with 6 turners SD HD 4K and streaming to other items.

I feel that 2TB is not going to be ideal for the number of turners and 4K too so in a year VM will have bring out a 4TB box as the cloud services ( servers ) are only as good as the Internet speed to and from them and chips & hard drive speeds.

Would like to see the back to see if it has items like USB C, HDMI, network plug and if the same size VM card will be used for coding ?

Also it would be nice to see if the new box has lost the power lead that TiVo 1 has now with smaller lead without power box.

Until Virgin formally announce pricing, it's anyone's guess.
The fact is, there are no prices in the public domain at present - it's all speculation until Virgin announce it.

People will pay if the price (whatever it may be at launch) is justified by the service/features. So rather than speculate on price - shouldn't we be discussing potential features first?

So here goes: Virgin and Sky seem quite friendly at the moment - Sky Sports 5 wasn't withheld when it launched and neither it seems is Sky Sports Mix going to be. Does anyone think we'll be seeing Sky''s live UHD football on Virgin?

Wow I have not set eyes on one of them boxes probably since I was 10 years old (18 years ago can that be right? ) I definitely can't remember how it performed but it looks exactly how I remember.

I have to say that the design is hideous, however Sky Q isn't much better. I know we should be interested in the features and content, but I like the tech under my TV in the lounge to be good looking.

Sky Q looked bigger in the pictures initially an now that I've seen it in action, it's OK but c'mon Virgin/Sky - that report card must say "could do better; much better!"

Apparently, it will be "about the size of a largish paperback book".

Personally, I like my tech to look just like that, nice rectangular boxes. Means they are easier to stack. However, I sometimes wonder if boxes like the current Tivo are made that shape deliberately to discourage stacking, thus improving reliability (better air flow) and thus fewer support problems.

Looks like an old Jerrold box they use to have on analogue, really hope thats just a prototype design. Would it have killed tham to just copy & paste the Tivo Romero design?

The problem that many people have is this.

What if the new TiVo comes out after the window to cancel because of the price rise has expired?

Do people jump ship whilst they can?

What if the new TiVo is too expensive or has performance issues too?

You're then stuck with a crappy box for up to a year (six months in my case).

One could always downgrade the TV package, but i've been told that this triggers yet another new one year contract. Not looked into this properly yet.

Again, mine isn't 'crappy'. The Tivo bit works fine. Though I do have another box for everything else.

Plus, if they get the Tivo now there's a good chance that they will be upgraded to the new box either FOC or cheaply.
