It is TiVo based.

And lightning fast I'm told.
Are you referring to the spinning circle? If mine goes much slower, it'll probably stop, freeze, and trigger a reboot.

Mine does stop sometimes and I have to do a manual reboot from the box as nothing else will work.

Just read that Andrew has seen something official that says that the new TiVo will be out "at the turn of the year", suggesting late December/early January.

I had been working towards November time.

At this rate I'll be out of contract anyway.

Sad that Virgin has not been seeing the re-action to the new box on forums like here and number customer they could be getting if the price is right ?

The Autumn and Winter is prime TV time with most TV companies and viewers, so new seasons and new shows along with Christmas TV shows.
Most new Televisions are sold in these seasons .

So why is the new Virgin box not out now when they are so behind other companies like Sky & BT with both having new UHD boxes out now.

There are only a few quad communications companies in the UK and Virgin was first with TV, Broadband,Telephone, and Mobile packages .

Now Sky & BT are a head with both having TV channels on top of having the four services and now having new UHD boxes out now, so why is Virgin not pushing out their new UHD boxes at this time after they have put out photo's and saying that it will be out late 2016 which is now?

Is the postings right that the box has software troubles that is holding back or is that they are watching the Internet to work out a price that many would pay or is it down to factories not able make boxes in the numbers yet ?

I suspect they may be trying to negotiate more UHD output - as it stands they're only talking about Netflix and YouTube, nothing from Sky or BT.

Could be, but I wouldn't have thought that they would delay the release of the box for this; the first TiVo was released before one of the tuners was ready!

Also, they'll want to start realising their investment ASAP.

I've just updated the Tv anywhere app on iOS and there are a couple of notes for V6 owners.

So it looks like streaming from the new box to phone/tablet/laptop via TV Anywhere app will be a feature.

Could the very fact that VM are talking about the new box in relation to TV Anywhere at this stage suggest that it's about to launch??

The last time I tried to use TV Anywhere with my Android devices, it wasn't compatible.

Has this changed??

I use TV Anywhere with my Android Tablet (Galaxy Tab 2) on a regular basis TV Anywhere is compatible with Android but it depends on which version and what Tablet.

It won't work with my Archos either. There is a list of Android devices that it has been test and works with; but it's a very small list

Cheers.

Another forum member has stated that he has been speaking to a VM manager about the V6:

-For the foreseeable you won't be able to download any Sky premium content from the V6 to your tablet device (unlike Sky Q).

-The only confirmed 4K content will be Netflix (with a reduced price of £7 for V6 customers), youtube 4K and a number of virgin movies in 4K priced between £6.99 and £9.99 for two days rental.

VM are in talks with BT Sport for 4K content, but there will be no Sky content from any Sky channel in 4K as this is exclusive to Sky customers until March 2018.

- There isn't a UHD section in the software at all but the box is 4K ready, meaning that the initial material available on Sky Q will not be accessible (124 live Premier League games, every F1 race from 2017, 70 films including Spectre and The Revenant, 30 hours of natural history and new dramas such as The Blacklist).

Who and when did the person speak ?
-For the foreseeable you won't be able to download any Sky premium content from the V6 to your tablet device (unlike Sky Q).
Well did ever think that Sky would in the first year or so give content to another company who is in the same market and is selling same type of box ????
-The only confirmed 4K content will be Netflix (with a reduced price of £7 for V6 customers), youtube 4K and a number of virgin movies in 4K priced between £6.99 and £9.99 for two days rental.
Good for Virgin in giving a discount of £1.99 a month for customers who pay for 4K Netflix ....
VM are in talks with BT Sport for 4K content, but there will be no Sky content from any Sky channel in 4K as this is exclusive to Sky customers until March 2018.
Sky & BT are not going to roll over to VM and give 4K content to help VM get more 4K/UHD customers are they ?
- There isn't a UHD section in the software at all but the box is 4K ready, meaning that the initial material available on Sky Q will not be accessible (124 live Premier League games, every F1 race from 2017, 70 films including Spectre and The Revenant, 30 hours of natural history and new dramas such as The Blacklist).
4K / UHD like many other TV updates will come slowly as like of Colour, Sound, Wide Screen , Digital, HD & others so it will take time remember that 4K / UHD needs TV & Film makers to put money in to make the content to sell on to TV broadcasters and this will take some time as did other TV updates over the years ....

Other TV platforms in the market to sell services will not help each other until they see that it would or may help them to spread the costs or to place an advert on another platform like sky has done in the past with channels like Sky News & Pick channels.

Films will come as they are made and some up scaled to 4K but F1 in UHD / 4K will come soon to VM as their joint company now owns shares of F1 so after contacts end or changed it will be on VM.

As for software it's only right the VM like BT & Sky would update and make sure it's UHD / 4K like the box.

BT UHD Youview box has HD & Ultra HD part on the Guide to show channels listings and in box settings HDMI Display Setting you can change only ..
BT also has 4K Netflix app to allow content like most UHD / 4K TV's have built in the software.

As more people buy 4K UHD TV's in the coming years more services will come like HD services TV & Films ....

Just wish Virgin would give out a release date so customers can be ready and see if they can afford the costs to having the V6 box ........

It was yesterday I think.

The person who he says he spoke to is "a senior tech guy working on the trials for the V6 in head office".

If this information is correct, VM customers will get Netflix 4K for £7 instead of £8.99.

Netflix HD itself is £7.49, so even those without a 4K TV could save a little money by watching the HD content on Netflix 4K with 4K in place should they ever need it.

Apparently, there will be offers for existing customers "to rival offers for Sky Q".

If it doesn't cost me any more I may consider it.

Well, with the number of times that things are repeated, you could probably record your archived programmes again!

If Netflix is reduced to £7, do you think that the saving is enough to get people to start using the TiVo to renew their subscriptions?

Virgin has had a page up for customers and non customers to put details in if they wish to get the new V6 box...
https://keepup.virginmedia.com/befirst

The page has had some trouble and virgin on their forum said that customers could use the non customers button to put they details in ???
Does this mean both types of customers will be set details.
( people can put there details in as many times as they wish too if they go back to the page later found. )

They had a page for the now old TiVo and I never got a reply back then so do these page do any real data holding for Virgin to e-mail from ?

or is the page just place to put an advert out that the new box is coming or is just a counter to see the numbers of boxes to order in the first hit from a factory ?

The press release from Virgin with images was back in August we now to the end of October yet we have no real date .

The box when it does come how many will they have and how fast will they manage to put them in ?
Will the box come self fit or will the box need a visit ?

VM is one of those companies you have to take dates from them with a pinch of salt. Don't hold your breath for this side of Christmas.

Yes your right that in the UK we have national hold on all works on broadcasting network but for repairs BUT I think that all December has now been changed to two weeks.

But this should not hold back any new boxes from coming out to customers as I got boxes in December over the years for different networks at my home and as they is no change to the network that could damage other people viewing then a box added to a cable that had a box would do any harm ....

I feel that the box will be next week as it November as in the TV world that month has always had changes & new things happen like DTT started on Sunday 15th November at 7PM and November gives time to post out boxes and fix them in for customers that need help.

Plus it's three months from when VM put out images for the new box and they are behind the likes of BT & Sky with 4K / UHD box.

Very true But as I don't have time to watch them anyway I probably wouldn't bother

If it loads faster, maybe. I use a Roku box now so couldn't really care less about that side of the product. (If that's what you meant?!)

I wonder if the new box will have a Windows App? Thinking of getting a Windows tablet so that would be ace. Pity they never wrote one for the Tivo

It will be self install.

If they don't get a move on, there won't be anyone to sell the new box to!

I know lots of long term cable customers who have grown tired of waiting and gone to Sky Q.

I have a feeling that Sky know this and are now offering some former VM customers 50% off TV for five years (that wasn't a typo!), without a contract.

They don't even have to do anything, it's applied automatically unless they decline the offer.

I have until the end of this month to decide what to do, or I'll be kept in a contract until March next year.

Very true But as I don't have time to watch them anyway I probably wouldn't bother

Apparently, Netflix (and all VOD) works like lightening on the new box.

Not heard anything about a Windows app.

What I was thinking was that, assuming that this would work, if the suggested discount comes to fruition and even if you don't upgrade, you could save some money by registering a new account on the old TiVo and using it on the Roku as one of your other devices

VM put out images back in August for the press and us.
They came out with the name EOS then it been changed to V6 and we have had no real new details from VM.

BT has had a 4K / UHD box and channel for sometime now and Sky has put out Sky Q.

At this time ..

BT customers can get the box for £49 and postage of £7 odd for post and UHD sports free along with drop in package of £2 per month for all SD HD channels but for Sky Sports.

Sky for new customers they give the Box free plus a second mini box with all channels plus Sky cinema £62 per month.

VM is late to the 4K / UHD world in the UK.

forums are full of ideas but as yet no idea to when the Boxes are due out.

Yes two types of boxes have been talked about. two levels like we had with TiVo with size of Hard Drives.

1TB & 2TB are said to be the size BT is 1TB and Sky Q has 2TB

BT can record two channels from Freeview EPG or two from BT Internet channels.
Sky Q can record four channels.
V6 is said to be able to record 6 ?

All have the use of Netflix as they have UHD service which many UHD TV use too.

The Box is smaller like BT Youview UHD box and Sky Q and it's mini box are from older HD boxes.

With Xmas coming and more new TV shows we need the new V6 box to be fixed in our homes ready .

I been told " soon and keep an eye out " by a Tweeter from VM office so what that means ?????

VM needs to get the box out soon as the other UHD boxes and deals are good and VM will loose customers if they wait after XMAS.

SO going by other companies the £199.00 plus £15 per week I feel is a no way as other boxes are so much cheaper and are just as good .

I feel VM will put out the boxes at....

1TB @ £49 plus £6 per month
2TB @ £69 plus £10 per month at the most as Sky charge £12 per month for both Sky Q and the Mini box.

Sky Q & mini cost is free but £60 fee to fix in your home

VM may ask a P&P to pay for box postage insurance ?
