Even if you could record 50 channels at once you still have only one pair of eyes. My recording capability is one channel at a time and even then I never get around to watching half of it.

Makes you wonder if those posters who "need" to save 5 or 6 programmes simultaneously spend 20 hours a day in front of a TV.
What a strange post. I choose to record everything and then watch what I want, when I want. Sometimes this requires 4 or 5 tuners at once.

Locked down? What's that supposed to mean and why would they be?
A question was asked as to whether the V6 would have a dedicated tuner for delay TV.

The answer is that it won't, as no TiVo has (for flexibility).

Okay. Missed that. Didn't the V+ have one? I seem to recall it used a "hidden" tuner to show live TV. (Or possibly not.)

Yes, it had 3 tuners. Two available for recording and one for delay TV.

Seriously considering one if cost reasonable, our existing 1Tb Tivo is becoming a pain, Saturday night it failed to record X Factor or rather it did record it but it didn't! It indicated it was recording but didn't actually do anything on Playback no fast forward or rewind then about half way through it I paused it pressed skip and it restarted from the beginning.
Last night 3 programme recording at 8pm and of the three it decided we would watch Yorkshire Vet on 5 Mrs wanted to watch Holby - no chance no matter what button was pressed on the remote there was no response not even standby.
Finally just after 9 I switched the power off via the rear panel switch.
Not the first time either of these has happened.
Reluctant to call an engineer in case he swaps it, lots of programmes to catch up on.

When does your V6 get delivered, Richard?
Now been informed that it's likely to be about a week.

To help others, I asked if it would cost any more either in an upfront payment or ongoing weekly cost and when it will be released to other customers.

I was told that I wouldn't be charged anything extra at all* and that they hope to release it on 1 December 2016.

* I'm not sure if this is an extra concession for me or if nobody will be charged anything extra.

I will be put onto another one year contract starting from when I am satisfied that the V6 performs satisfactorily.

I'm not bothered about this as I will have a box that doesn't take ages to carry out commands and will be paying less than before the price rise.

Well done VM! I'm happy to congratulate them when they get things right.

You will be very suprised by the v6 new things will be coming to it as you will get it with similar software to the existing setup but other things are getting tested in new software I can't say what but it adds more features to it .

The current state of play is:

30 November- Unveiling of the new V6 at a central London location. Attendance by invitation only. Invites were sent out the other week; if you haven't received an invitation by now, you won't be getting one.

1 December- The V6 is officially released to the public, but there are around 2 million TiVo's currently in circulation and, apparently, VM only intend to release 10,000 up until the end of the year.

The only V6 boxes out there at the moment seem to be former V6 testers and selected new & existing customers.

It's not yet known what process will be used to allocate boxes going forward.

I agree. Just send me one in the post. I can handle setting it up. No engineer install needed.

Well, VM did say that existing customers would be self install, however, it appears that VM may have changed their mind about self this as i've now been told that my V6 will be brought on Thursday by an engineer who will take my old box away with him after installing the new box.

Again, I don't know if this has been done to appease me or will be done for everyone converting to the new box.

They have also agreed to credit my account with a further £60, in effect this covers the TiVo fee from April when my box started going slow.

My concerns is that if it is the case that self install is not going to be available, that it will delay the rollout. For the benefit of others, if I think on, i'll ask the installer when he's here.

I can't knock VM for wanting to make sure that everything will work properly though, I suspect that they will want to make sure that VOD works as there is no longer a built in modem.

If your router isn't in close proximity to the TiVo (which mine isn't), then I believe that they fit Powerline adapters free of charge.

Perhaps the built in modem was needed when TiVo was first introduced as at that time we didn't have the high BB speeds that we have now??

Over the years I've set up numerous TV's, Video Cassette Recorders, HiFi Systems DVD's the odd Blu Ray and loads of computers (including building several from scratch) so I don't think setting up a V6 box would be a problem.

Some good news for those with a slow box.

VM are now rolling out a software update to try and improve the speed.

This should take no more than 30 seconds and will carry on being rolled out during the rest of November.

If the box is switched off at the time of the update, it will download it as soon as it is switched back on.

What the software build number?

What the software build number?
For a Cisco box it's: 20.5.7.RC24-VMC-2-C00.

For a Samsung box it's 20.5.7.RC24-VMS-2-C8A.

Correction:

The official download time is 30 minutes, not seconds!

It actually takes about 10 minutes.

I've just checked and this is the software version I have. A quick test switching back and forth between a recording and live TV, the delay which used to be well over 10 seconds is now more like 2 or 3 seconds, so definitely an improvement.

You will need a minimum of 100 mb to be eligible for the v6 self install won't be an option as they won't send out powerline with every self install as it'll cost the a fortune and they may not even be necessary .

There is now 10,000 v6 boxs live across the network so they can't be that bad testing prior to release was done any bugs glitches were fixed .

People will be suprised that it actually works like it's supposed to and then what the forums won't have anything to complain about ...well tv wise ....😂

I'm actually on 100mb, does this mean that those with a V6 cannot downgrade in the future?

My TiVo is three 3 floors down from my cable modem. Will there be no need to involve the modem and simply connect the TiVo to my WiFi?

My WiFi works fine for my Smart TV and everything else.

Yes as the boxs do not have there own cable modem in them unlinked the older tivos. You will need to connect via wifi or powerline .

In relation to downgrading from the 100mb and keeping the v6 I'm unsure as nothing has been mentioned on this other than you need a 100mb minimum .

Obviously if you have poor wifi to your v6 and are on a separate ringmain to your sh2 and above then who knows ..

It was referring to the quick start option . As it would be too difficult to determine prior to the qs getting ordered if powerline was needed and the company would spend a fortune on these .

Again these are.my personal views..
