I didn't have to pay anything to upgrade and someone has posted that CS have said that customers will be upgraded for free, however, no commercial details have yet been announced so this may not mean anything.

Very interesting but I'm sure they will probably try to tie you into a new 18 month contract if you upgrade.
It really annoys me how they're now tying customers to a contract every time they sneeze, if they were confident of their service/products they wouldn't need to do this. I can understand it for new installations to recoup their costs, but not for anything else. |

Has everyone with a V6 only got 1TB like myself?
Nothing has been mentioned about the 2TB that was rumoured to be coming. I would have preferred one of these, but didn't want to sound ungrateful as it was provided at no cost. Having only had the V6 for three days and having watched some recordings, i've used 25% of the HDD already! I guess this is the downside of having 6 tuners as it enables me to record more HD broadcasts and first transmissions as opposed to having to push them back. |

The RC24 update arrived overnight for me and the box does seem to be much quicker now.

You'd think that they'd have opened another pop up channel to televise this if they think it's going to be that much of a game changer.

The Telly Tablet is available for preorder from Thursday.
https://www.cnet.com/uk/news/virgin-...-telly-tablet/More apps on the way Quote:
With the likes of BBC iPlayer, YouTube, Netflix and Vevo all signed up for a day-one download, more apps will continue to be added moving forward.
http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/news/a815544/virgin-media-takes-on-sky-by-bringing-4k-tv-to-your-home-with-its-new-tv-v6-box/TV Anywhere update, TellyTablet and Virgin Media Store Quote:
Like Sky, Virgin Media knows that TV viewing habits have changed. Families aren't all gathering around the main TV and want to enjoy their favourite programmes in their own time. TV Anywhere, Virgin Media's existing streaming app, has been updated with thousands of hours of on-demand programming and a new "What To Watch Now" feature, which offers a curated list of things you might be interested in. If you're watching on your tablet, you can swipe the recordings to the TV or access all of your recordings wherever you are. https://www.engadget.com/2016/11/30/virgin-media-v6That explains why the provider is also launching its own tablet: the TellyTablet. The company describes it as "the missing link," something that builds on its shift to streaming. The TellyTablet, not TellyTubby, is a 14-inch slate that integrates its new services and supports third-party apps like Sky Sports, Sky Cinema, BBC iPlayer and ITV Hub. It has an integrated stand, 8-hour battery life and runs a custom build of Android. To appease the little ones, Virgin Media has developed a new Kids app for iOS and Android, allowing parents to download the latest Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol episodes to a mobile device for long car journeys. It's free for subscribers who have already signed up to the necessary entertainment bundles and includes a "five times" feature that lets you play back a certain episode up to five times for little ones who want to watch the same thing over and over again. The Virgin Media Store is a download-to-own store that provides access to movies and TV series that aren't typically available on Virgin Media packages. Shows like Game of Thrones and Billions will be available at launch, as will movies in the first out-of-cinema window. Should you buy a movie, Virgin Media will also send you a physical copy of the film, mimicking Sky's Buy & Keep movie store. TellyTablet Details Quote:
Not that the Telly Tablet is automatically included in Virgin's basic setup -- you'll have to choose a bundle that includes it in the cost or pay an additional £299 upfront. For that you get a 14-inch Full HD screen, 32GB of built-in memory with expandable storage you'll definitely need to take advantage of, along with two USB ports and a kickstand built into the chassis. Running a customised version of Android Marshmallow, it can also be used as a normal Android slate, but Virgin really wants you to view it as a "personal smart TV".

What a total anticlimax.
Virgin have totally dropped the ball here. They had the opportunity to do what Sky did - come up with a totally new, fresh system that properly competed with Sky Q but all they've done is produced a slightly breathed-on version of their old rubbish. So it appears they've not even released any plans for broadcast 4K? They ramble on about being the best Netflix 4K system yet anyone with a 4K TV will have a built-in Netflix app already so what's the point? Where are the satellite boxes which stream from the main one? I see they've said their mobile apps will be able to do this to watch content recorded on the box but what about multi-room installations? Looks like VM are going to to their usual thing of competing with Sky on price rather than functionality/features/quality. Hopeless. |

Shame there isn't a 2TB option - 1TB was fine until HD came along. A doubling of storage would have been nice. I know you always end up using what you have, but six tuners + 2TB would have been really tempting. Six tuners but no additional storage space, not quite so much. Although £99 isn't too bad - thought it might have been more like £199.

Regarding 2TB, they have just come out with something wet like 'Two boxes gives you 12 tuners and 2TB'. Also, who in their right mind would pay £299 for a VM branded tablet to stream content elsewhere in the house? |

And it has multi-room streaming, the original TiVo already had that anyway, and the V6 supports it as well, including streaming between the old TiVo and the V6. I currently have SkyQ due to stupidly good deal, but I certainly intend to switch back to VM when my contract is up, TBH I'd rather have the current TiVo to the Q, so the V6 seems like a no-brainer. |

The BBC article about this seemed to have a pretty negative tone.
IMHO VM are just playing catch up and little else. They are releasing a box that they should have done 18 months ago when £30 USB sticks had better performance than their TIVO boxes. The tablet just seems like a complete misstep - can anyone explain what the USP to this is? I think that VM should be looking towards Amazon rather than Sky. Abandon the idea that people want to sign up to hundreds of channels and then record thousands of hours of programmes from them. Rather give them the tools to access online content and pay for what they want. The central idea around TIVO being a place to find content was great - it was just poorly executed. |

AFAIK, people who are on the top package can get the new box for £49.95 installation fee. Why have many people on this forum reported that they've had one FOC? I'd really like one of them, but I'm not too keen on paying £50 for the privilege of borrowing VM's box...

Also, who in their right mind would pay £299 for a VM branded tablet to stream content elsewhere in the house? Looking at this page, you can tell they're really struggling to highlight amazing new features... http://www.virginmedia.com/shop/camp...-v6-about.html You can, um, search for stuff! It has Series Link + and a 1TB hard drive. Weirdly, it doesn't mention the six tuners on that page. Just realised we're on the Full House package, so would be £49, which is kinda tempting. It is a bit fragmented in our house - we tend to use the Apple TV for Netflix / iPlayer - both are faster, and the iPlayer on Apple TV is by far the best version of it I've seen on any platform. Very intuitive, very good UI, and lightning fast. |

TellyTablet £299
£299 for the TellyTablet?
If it has the same functionality as an ipad\samsung tablet, who is going to pay that? |

I won't be rushing out to order one. I don't have a 4K TV (yet), I don't see the need for 6 tuners (is there ever that much worth recording at the same time?) and it's the ugliest piece of gadgetry I've seen in years.

I'd happily have a V6 if there was a no-fee self-install option. |

I disagree. Streaming is still a minority interest right now. (Unless you have any figures to prove otherwise?) I am certainly more than happy to, in the main, record standard TV shows in preference to streaming.
I'd happily have a V6 if there was a no-fee self-install option. Whoever thought a huge, heavy, 14" tablet was a good idea needs to be fired. Thinking of scaling back my package as the price rises, slow TiVo and general lack of future strategy are annoying me now. Sky seem to have a much better idea of how to design new products and services and how to market them. |
