The extra day of rest could be a big advantage.... I don't remember semis taking place on weds and thurs in previous world cups or euros... Thought it was Tuesday and weds...
Yeah I think a lot of people are underestimating how big of an advantage this will be for Portugal. Couple that with the fact they have the much easier semifinal and it looks like a huge edge for them going into the final.

By the looks of it the Euros has only allowed the second semi-finalist two days off from 2000 on, at Euro 96 both semis were on the same day and they had a luxurious four day rest. I'm surprised they haven't used the expansion to include a third place playoff.

I can see Germany scoring at least once against that French defence.

This is Portugal we are talking about though... and not the Portugal of the glorious golden generation and Figo days. We are talking about this awful-looking team that play some bizarre neither attacking nor defensive "style" of football without any plan whatsoever. The crawled out of an extremely easy group in third place without winning a game and conceding 3 goals from Hungary of all teams! They really are a horrendous team and Ronaldo is out of form

Both Germany and France can beat them in their sleep.

So can I, but I can also see the French scoring - a lot - if they turn up

They were very flattered by that scoreline last night though. Eight shots on target and five goals and they only had 59% possession.....on another night, that might have been a 2-1 at most, Iceland defended several of those goals badly.

The French attack is amazing though. Crazy quality. They just stopped playing in the second half.

And Germany without Gomez are a lot less scary.

My non-Italian (and much less attractive) guru for all things football is Mehmet Scholl. He commentates for German TV and is the best pundit of them all. He wasn't very happy with that Germany performance. They have weaknesses

I don't think they were 'that' good even in the first half. They played at about the level you would expect of a host nation in the quarter finals against a much lower ranked side. If Iceland had defended a bit better, France might only have had a 1-0 lead at HT.

They're clearly a decent outfit but I don't think they're at the level of their 1998 or 2006 sides (not yet anyway).

World Cup 1998 they had a superb team and an even better one at Euro 2000 (best team I have ever seen play live) but I have to disagree about 2006. Can you not remember how awful they played before Zidane suddenly decided half-way through the tournament that he actually wanted to win this and started playing some unbelievable football on his own? The French team only ever came together in the 2006 final

Well the French team haven't been that impressive at this tournament either. Arguably last night was their best one, but they were very flattered to score five goals from eight attempts.

France 98, they were the best team throughout... Beforehand it was billed as Zidane and dyorkaeff... Realistically dyorkaeff was very good, but nothing special in terms of top class and I don't remember much of him in that tournament... France from 98 until 2000 were comfortably the best team in the world... Thuram, lizarazu, Zidane were the best in their positions in the world and they all performed

France 2016 throughout a 90 minutes are potentially too front loaded for their own good, respective to their 98-00 teams...when it comes to the nuts and bolts of winning the entire thing I would always err on the side of the latter (if they were about now).

There were meaner defences in the latter stages overall back then, not just France.

Those were the days of Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro and France still managed to break through with the sheer power of their attack and break my heart in the last seconds of Euro 2000

Anyway, none of the teams left in this tournament have defences to write home about.
