England actually performed in the semi final.

There's was more life in a tramps vest than Wales against Portugal.

Do you remember what Uruguay looked like with and without Suarez? That's Wales with and without Ramsey. Different team.

Anyway, England's 1996 squad had Gazza - my favourite (and in my view best) English player of all time, so I will always remember them fondly

Amazing to think Gazza only played in one World Cup tournament & Euro 96 was twenty years ago.. England getting to the semis & being beaten on penalties by Germany was tough.
Wales sadly went out with a whimper last night & although they missed Ramsey, it was a case of one game too much.

Amazing player (for everyone who says I don't like the English - I can appreciate real quality).

Gazza was very non-English in his style of play He had an incredible understanding of the game on the pitch and superb ball skills

So you like one English player, but still manage to get in an anti England dig. Is he the only English player to have those qualities throughout history?

I got one in just for you

In all seriousness, no Gazza was not the only one who had those qualities. I thought Scholes also had similar qualities. But Gazza is the best player I have ever seen play for England (live). Absolutely loved him

I think Gazza is hugely overrated by the English. He was a decent dribbler and had a good shot but there have been far superior number 10s.

Paul Scholes was a far superior player to Gazza

Totally agree on all counts, and anti English digs are at best, childish

Bloody hell people, I'm not anti-English! I live in England (for now at least )

England 1990 - loved them and wanted them to beat Germany (even though I was a kid and my dad was a huge Germany fan)

England 1996 - loved them and wanted them to beat Germany

England 1998 - had a crush on Michael Owen and definitely wanted them to win, still remember that team

England 2002 - absolutely devastated how close they came to beating Brazil, although they didn't play as well as in 1998 and I disliked Beckham by then

England 2004 - liked them, but Rooney was a very unattractive star

England 2006 - less impressed, but I liked Sven, so I still wanted them to do well

England from 2008 onward - performances fell off a cliff and started bordering more and more on the macabre

Why do you think so many people think you are then? If you decide your support on who you like or not, it confirms much of what people think.

Because I said England's players and the manager have been abysmal (or words to that effect) and apparently that's not allowed and only someone who hates England would say that.

As for your last sentence... ok then

England and their supporters are still stuck in the past I mean what have they really done since 1966.They really need a good clearout and to make sure the manager they choose is up to the job.Not sure how many managers they have had since 1966 but I do not rate any of them.Maybe big Sam Alladyce but whoever they choose I believe that person should be English

You cannot describe any player like Gazza having any national style. Did Maradona have an Argentian style, Did Best have a Northern Ireland style? Does Ronaldo and Messi have their countries styles? These were or are great players who are individuals who stand out from national identities.

I meant that Gazza had a football intelligence and ball skills so many English players lack. I'm not England-bashing (as Deep Purple will undoubtedly come in and say). It's a fact that many English players of the past have spoken about.

That whole general of players 1990-1996 was different, but for me, Gazza in particular stood out as a real superstar.

Not many players anywhere were as good as Gazza at his best. However, plenty of English players over the years have had real quality.
