England actually performed in the semi final.

There's was more life in a tramps vest than Wales against Portugal.
If Wales had no life in them I dread to think how much life England had not much in mine or many others opinions

Amazing player (for everyone who says I don't like the English - I can appreciate real quality).

Gazza was very non-English in his style of play He had an incredible understanding of the game on the pitch and superb ball skills
Gazza was the one England player who never been replaced and probably never will. There is no player in the current England team with anything like his skill.

He's not been in an England squad for several months.
And neither should he be not good enough

So you don't know who's been in charge since 1966 but they're all rubbish, and you have no idea who is in the squad or why someone isn't but they should all be cleared out.

I hope you stick around past this tournament, these pearls of wisdom make the forum what it is.

I agree. Really awful that the stupid injury ruined his career.

since I wasn't even 2 in 1996 on memory I would have to go for the 2016 options

I meant that Gazza had a football intelligence and ball skills so many English players lack. I'm not England-bashing (as Deep Purple will undoubtedly come in and say). It's a fact that many English players of the past have spoken about.

That whole general of players 1990-1996 was different, but for me, Gazza in particular stood out as a real superstar.
Although I would put Gazza up there with the very best of all time there are many players who had a fraction of his ability who used their intelligence and movement that made them great players. Sherringham didn't have great pace but his brain was so quick that it more than made up for it. Terry despite his personal shortcomings is another like Hansen who knew by instinct and football intelligence where to be at the right time as did Lineker or Andy Cole and Robbie Fowler know where to be when chances presented themselves, it is something that so many defenders and forwards fail to do so appallingly. I know he is Scottish and maybe doesn't come into this thread but Dalglish is probably one of the very best who was blessed with so much talent but had as much intelligence to go with it.

I think Gazza is hugely overrated by the English. He was a decent dribbler and had a good shot but there have been far superior number 10s.

Paul Scholes was a far superior player to Gazza
No chance
