BBC&ITV World cup/Euro intro’s - Don’t make them like they used to??
I'm enjoying this tournament so far, commentary has been fine, punditry has been fine etc. But one thing I've noticed over the years now that has largely disappeared are the number catchy (some might say cheesy
) intro's we used to get from both the BBC and ITV with these tournaments.I just saw this on youtube, it was my first ever world cup, and "that" BBC theme tune which, yes call me sad, will always be synonymous to me and my memories with that world cup. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5KKu1_TIRM The ITV one was pretty good as well that year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GlvZrIUPfA I think the 2002 WC was the last one with notable tunes (IMO), ever since they've kinda stopped any of note. |

Portugal 2004 was good imo, on both channels but yes after that it dropped.
Sing sing Africa did my head in. |

Think the ITV one is pretty good this year in fairness.

Nothing will ever top BBC's Nessun Dorma during Italia 90.
I think the only one I've liked since that is BBC's intro to World Cup 2014 with the Stevie Wonder song. |

I love the graphics this year from ITV, the fishbowl beginning from the BBC not so much.
The song or jingle on ITV does let it down however. |

I liked the "vintage picture" of the train station with the word "sortie", after England went out.

Commentary/punditry is fine??
![]() Didn't I hear Glenn Hoddle say of one team "They give up possession far too easily. Especially when they have the ball"? Quite how anyone can give up possession when they don't have the ball is something I've yet to work out! Oh for another Brian Moore. And 'On the Ball'. Minus Jimmy Hill. |

I think it's brilliant. It really captures the art work of those fantastic '20s/'30s travel posters. |
