Magic Soul Summer has taken the place of Magic ABBA on the Birmingham multiplex.

The name is displaying as Magic ABBA.

EDIT: Name has now updated to MAGIC SOUL SUMMR

Sounds interesting - and, according to Radio Today, the change has been made on all the local multiplexes that were carrying Magic Abba.

On this basis, I'd say Magic Christmas is a near certainty for December.

Maybe they plan in the future to role out a new station & they are holding on to DAB slots with pop up stations?.

Is this one to tie in with a sponsor like the Abba one?

No mention of one in the Radio Today article...

Do pop up radio stations make any money or is it a way of just holding on to DAB slots ?.

Pop up radio stations don't hold on the DAB slots - by definition. They 'pop up' and then 'pop off!'

Not the most soulful music I've ever heard. I do think groups that cut localness should be barred from launching national jukeboxes.

Those links didn't work. I think it's because DS shortens the text of the URLs in posts (even though when you click them the full url opens) and if you copy and paste from the post you don't get the full url.

I clicked quote on the post you linked to and copied and pasted from there. Hopefully when clicking these should work.

Many thanks for pointing my in the right direction. It's much appreciated.

Magic Soul Summer has indeed taken:
- the Glasgow capacity which was earlier used by Clyde Rocks (the presence of which prevented Magic ABBA from running there)
- the capacity previously used by Magic ABBA in all other areas except Manchester, where Niocast has used the former Magic ABBA space to add new DAB+ services and CE is too full.

Dipped in and out several times, unsurprisingly it's just the same tunes you'd hear on Magic anyway, no context, no excitement, nothing you haven't heard a million times before...

Same with Swansea - space on the multiplex but nothing been put on there!

As New Corp have got hold of Wireless Group - maybe they will put the audio of Sky News on the DAB multiplexes?
