Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own

Singer/songwriter Calum Scott has released a stunning cover version of Robyn's song "Dancing On My Own". The Britain's Got Talent 2015 finalist has released his version of the song and it has shot straight up the UK charts currently sitting just outside the top 10.

Listen to the song below. Personally, I think it's one of those rare covers that surpasses the original.

Can't understand why it's taken so long to be released. It's a great cover.

In no way does it surpass the original.....its just another dreary slowed down cover version

Yep. Most of those really don't work IMO.

Currently at #2 on the official iTunes chart, ahead of Adele and Justin Timberlake!

I love the original but I can't get into this version. His voice is so affected and fake. And also the inconsistency in which gender references he's decided to change is confusing.

It's amazing how this has done.
BGT ended. He got to the final. Didn't win. Didn't get signed.
Put out this cover independently and a Youtube video with 30+ million views
It crept up the charts both streaming and downloading.
He got interest from a label got signed
The label made it a new music video and re-released it, very little promotion and buzz and it's sat at No.3 and sold over 200,000 copies.

I don't think you could get a bigger screw you Cowell....

It is a good cover of an amazing song by an amazing under appreciated and relatively unheard artist. He has worked hard in terms of touring and promoting and so all credit to his success! He shows that hard work after any reality show is so important.

Yeah I'm really shocked how well this is doing! I think it's been in the charts for ages and I'm glad for him that it's climbing up the charts.

I wasn't a big fan of Callum's vocal style on BGT (at least he doesn't have that shrill vocal style that Sam Smith has **shudders**) but I have to say kudos to Capitol who have seen the potential and took full advantage.

I think what has been most surprising is how well the single started doing whilst it was still on the independent label. It's not like it became a hit off the back of BGT, but pretty much a whole year later which I find extraordinary.

Also Capitol have made the single 59p on iTunes so they're really trying to make this as big a hit as they possibly can.

Callum's next single will be the real test to discover how popular he is. Dancing On My Own could well just be a fluke.

Absolute dirge.

Robyn can sleep easy at night knowing she's still vastly superior despite them all attacking her youtube video.

Tired of cover songs. Artists these days need to stop being lazy with covers and release more original songs instead

I like it but it's not his original version. He's covered Robyn's Live Lounge acoustic version of the single.

He has an annoying twang to his voice and seems to think he's Olly Murs.

"I'm in the corner watching you kiss her" - unchanged
"I'm giving it my all, but I'm not the guy you're taking home" - changed

So is his love interest a lesbian then or is he singing it from a gay perspective where he's lusting after a straight man?
