Sky Satellite reciever is dead :(
subversive

Hi,

The Sky Satellite reciever in my Fathers room has stopped working.

Tried swapping cables around, etc. But no luck.

There is no power going to the box.

Would I need to buy a Sky reciever to recieve the Sky channels (His room doesn't have a subscription) or can I buy any Satellite reciever?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

If he doesn't have a subscription, then all he needs is a Freesat box.

youve tried the fuse in the plug? But it cd be the switch mode power supply.

Depends what u want to do. A freesat receiver will
get all the free to air channels, using same dish. There's both recording types with hard disk, and non recording typeq

If u hav a sky subscription for encrypted channels, then u need a replacement sky receiver, but the free to air channels can also be got on freesat. Buy one at your nearest Argos store.

Otherwise, sky receivers, inc refurbished 2nd hand, can be purchased online from various sources.

Thanks. I have checked all the channels and most are the same. However, they done have the same Asian channels.

I have ordered a refurbished box from ebay.

Thanks for your replies.

All the channels are available on a Freesat box in non Freesat mode. Much better than a sky box for free to air.
