That finally reduced me to floods of tears

What a very sad day this turned out to be !

Lovely post Brian, though without wishing to be negative, but just doing exactly that - remaining friends is what most people say they will be when they split up, but it rarely happens, particularly when one or other eventually meets someone else. I don't doubt though that they will always wish the best for each other and will always look back on their time together with real fondness and happiness. Who knows, this may not be the end for them, but it seems like a pretty final split at the moment.

I too will continue to hang around here as we follow them both in their respective endeavours. I was a latecomer to this thread but have loved being here and enjoyed all your posts

I know we can speculate about this until NDD's cows come home, but like most of us I believe this is about the nuts and bolts of careers and ambition.

I know that we will never know what's happened, but it looks as if two talented people met and fell in love at the wrong time. Their individual careers have both really started to take off and both of them need to make the most of the opportunities that they've currently got so they can fulfil their ambitions and each build a strong long term career. But inevitably that leads to conflicting priorities and the challenge of balancing careers and relationships. It can be really tough to negotiate with each other and work out a mutually acceptable solution.
So I wonder if that's what's happened here and as someone said earlier they've decided to call time on it now rather than have it all go pear-shaped in the middle of their busiest time, when they've got responsibilities regarding productions and they're in the full glare of the media spotlight.

I am just so sorry because I think they were good together and brought out the best in each other both as professionals and as human beings and that's why it is such a shame - and (whispers) part of me is thinking are you sure this is what you two really want?.

It is the pure shock factor as to most of us there were no "warning signs."
I just think I need to properly process this sad news and get used to the fact we will be posting on GG's individual lives and not as a couple anymore as I don't want to lose you lot as well. I have only just found you

But lots of people have competing career demands and if the will is there, they could have found a way around it. Looking at the Strictky pros for example, Oksana and Oti are both married and working away at the moment, and Gorka is away from his fiancée. It just seems like they didn't give it a go, if that was the reason - and if they were that in love, whilst it wouldn't have been ideal and would have been really hard - it would have been worth it. I guess we don't know what else, if anything, there was to it. These things are complicated aren't they

I think you are absolutely right - but trying to think back to my early twenties (a very long time ago) I can't help thinking you keep wandering back to someone you love "very, very much" - whatever hard headed and sensible decisions you make for professional reasons !

What a horrible, horrible sad day, I was in work when I read Georgia's tweet and i honestly could not believe it.

I'm genuinely shocked and feel so sad at this news. Was too gutted to post earlier.

I just have a feeling that Georgia was feeling overshadowed by Strictly and perhaps a bit undervalued - looking at her two instagrams before the last one I think as usual the clues are there.

I know it's so crazy to get over invested in someone else's relationship - I really do - but they are just so bloody lovely together. I feel like banging their bloody heads together. If they love each other so much, hey, here's a suggestion, don't split up!!

A year ago I had never heard of either of these two and now looking forward to my favourite pro's second season on Strictly and seeing Georgia tread the boards as Holly Golightly! We'll always have the dances and memories, no one can take those away, and new things to look forward to. Georgia tweeted recently something about friendship being the most important thing and it seems that they have decided not to risk losing that, even though it must hurt right now.

That made me laugh between sobs - don't you just love how everyone in the thread is responding exactly as usual ?

Hello everyone xx. I have missed ye x. Sorry I haven't been on in ages been so busy but had to come back after the shocking news today. I'm in complete shock. At first I thought Georgia's account must have been hacked but I guess that is not the case it makes no sense at all😢. What happened to all the team GG is forever😢. Well yes. I would argue that if you really love someone then you love them and you want to be with them and you make it work for you. Because the pain and loneliness of missing someone you love can never be fixed by a salary cheque or promotion opportunities. What may seem impossible at the outset is possible if you want it to happen.
So ... maybe there was more to it..
But as Sandy said earlier - it's been a shock.

I honestly think from the way she says she still loves him very very much but things change that this is a joint decision between them & that he really is still "her favourite human being!!"

I still think that although they've had the very best of times they probably have enough maturity to realise that from now on they are likely to spend more & more time apart & they want to part while still best friends rather than it all go sour by starting to resent each other's success!!
I fully realise there will be certain people gleefully clapping their hands thinking they were right about this being a relationship of no substance but I actually believe as I said earlier that this is more about them loving each other enough not to want to hold each other
back!!

And besides, even if the doubters & 'non fans' were right, if you were either Georgia or Giovanni which would you rather spend 8 months doing, living a dream life with someone who is crazy about you, & you them, or sitting behind a computer keyboard finding every possible combination of negative thoughts & words about someone you've never met & know nothing whatsoever about??

Great post, Mrs G. I think it's all a career thing. I think one key phrase in Georgia's announcement was her saying she still loved Gio but "things change". This makes me think she's had a great offer of work that, as I said , she doesn't feel she can turn down. As someone said maybe they thought they just couldn't deal with the separation that would involve. However, that doesn't bode for any relationship for Georgia since unless she works all the time with any future boyfriend there are bound to be separations, sometimes quite long ones. I think she's going to have some thinking to do about what she really wants out of life and how she can make it work. There may be other things involved, of course, but i guess until she comes to write her memoirs we'll probably never know what it's really all about.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall and hear what she is saying (or more likely sobbing) to her Mum this weekend and what her Mum thinks of it all.

Poor Gio - in a short space of time he's lost his dance partner (as of next year) and now he's split up with his girlfriend. Bit of a sad start to what should be a really exciting time for him! I hope he's OK and not working his way through a crate of Peroni this weekend to try and drown his sorrows!
