very interesting question guys - can only answer from my experience
We have a large dance center in the inner city with a large multi cultural population in the school we have ballet, jazz, drama, singing, stage, hip hop and ballroom and latin both medalist and competitive. the ballet, jazz, drama, singing, stage and hip hop is very evenly spread between all ethnic backgrounds with a good mix - we have a large Chinese population and those pupils tend to prefer ballet, jazz and stage kids from Afro Carribean backgrounds attend all classes except competitive ballroom and latin which has much less, most favored classes are jazz, hip hop, stage and some medalist ballroom and latin. I think with so much on offer to kids taking up dancing in somewhere like the uk that whilst dancers might learn all forms of dance competitve ballroom and latin can be on the backfoot for instance this week a freestyle disco competition Icon has attracted hundreds and hundreds of competitors ballroom and latin championships for kids would be lucky to attract half or even a quarter of that. Worldwide competitive ballroom and latin has a huge following mainly Europe, North America, Asia (not india or pakistan), Australia, China and South Africa - South America tends towards less formal dance styles (salsa, mambo etc) I just need to add that the parents have to be committed too if their children want to excel and compete in any form of dance, gymnastics, ice skating and even martial arts. Parents have to be prepared to devote a great deal of their time, energy and money to attend and pay for lessons, travel to comps and buying special clothes and especially competition costumes in the case of skating and dance. I know this a little from personal experience but have also seen it in several TV documentaries - a recent one on children who want to become ice skaters showed a family that was practically bankrupting themselves to support their daughter - this little girl was utterly determined to become a champion. They also followed a child who was less than enthusiastic but the mother was obsessed with her daughter making it to the Olympics. I am sure there was a similar one on children who were competing in Ballroom dancing where the costumes cost an absolute fortune. Did anyone else see it ? |

`You answer as I expected , not great if ballroom and Latin wish to be attractive to a younger generation , hence my thought we need a coloured male pro on strictly maybe to help dance along , thanks again bendy
https://twitter.com/BusolaPeters Which I know doesn't exactly answer your desire for a black male ballroom/latin specialist but then again there is Oti who is doing it for the girls. |

Be ok for a tart or two, ill join the club in I hope not
To be honest I think he probably would be quite good on Strictly - I am sure he would be able to dance. However, he is so unpopular I can't see him lasting long - The GBP gained my respect last time by not voting for Peter Andre, so I am sure we could count on them not voting for Paul. Sorry Gio I know Peter Andre was very popular with you ! (Wasn't he one of Gio's best friends ?) |

Having said that though, I thought the reason for the delay was to snare some Olympians, who presumably they'd wait and see who did well and was popular etc. Hope you all have lovely days. Belated congrats to Afton for her daughter's graduation, sniffle and to Lewis, I do love a good wedding! |

Really, Paul Burrell?????? Ew. He would be an absolute poisoned chalice for whatever poor pro got lumbered with him. And, they'd have to touch him, bleugh😨. On the brighter side, once they'd come out of therapy, said pro would have plenty of time for spa breaks, Christmas shopping etc.

I wasn't even that big a fan of Diana but the way he shamelessly tried to gain publicity & financial reward from her death was truly abhorrent!! If he was to last more than one week on Strictly I would be very surprised!! Loathsome little man!!!

Some Olympians are already very popular whether they win gold or not - quite a few of the male gymnasts, Greg Rutherford and Jess Ennis-Hill for example so I wonder if they are already signed up ! BTW Jess would be a great partner for Gio - how tall is she ? |

I agree about Burrell!!! He seems to be very popular in his own mind but pretty much universally despised by the rest of the world!!

I still find Paul Burrell nauseating though. Is he too controversial for Strictly though? I thought that Peter Andre was just about as 'controversial' as the show would want. Dread to think what Paul Burrell would try to nick on the way out or what stories he'd flog to the tabloids. |

Sadly the price of costumes in very prohibitive, in an effort to encourage u/12's to compete and because costumes were getting out of hand in this age group the official board introduced a dress code for this age group - no sequins, only certain styles of skirts and bodice no over the top hair pieces and makeup for boys just shirts and trousers - it helped to some extent but once they reach Juniors (12-16) anything goes - as with all competitive sports, dance etc without the parents on board virtually impossible for the competitor |

A lot of dancers turn to ballroom and latin later (15/16 ) I have one who did not do ballroom and Latin as a child (he competed in Freestyle and hip hop when young) and he is on tour with Flav and Vincent.

I don't think I've heard you mention it, Ruby. I really like Aliona and she's (for some reason) the only other person I don't mind dancing with Gio I was hopeful when I read she might be returning
He's actually doing rather well. Got him used to the music now and he's working on finding his own beat and rhythm. And I even made t-shirts - thought following in the footsteps of Team GG seemed like a good idea ) Also - fantastic news - he's all ready for table dancing tonight ....... very impressed with Goat's dancing, are you teaching him or is he getting help from a pro dancer ?: Quote:
There's another name to add to the list of famous dancers you've met or indeed danced with - is your name Flavia Cacace by any chance?! ![]() btw, I still suspect you're taking part in Strictly and I await the celebrity announcements with interest ![]() Quote:

Yes he is one lucky guy, but to a large degree he has made his own luck here so, envious as I am I salute him!! Ok, good looks, Italian charm & a foreign accent haven't done any harm I'm sure, but none of us can put a price on what he has given our lovely, beautiful Georgia in return for the 'pre-village' of having her to return to each night!! ![]() Something like that, yes & I've a feeling it will return every time I see that photo!! Lol!!! The guy is just a natural seemingly!! Strictly should hold onto him for dear life if possible, they will NEVER find a better ambassador!! Jo Clifton should be given 'the freedom of Elstree' for suggesting & introducing him to the show!! ![]() well, I come over all unnecessary whenever I see that picture of Gio taken by Joseph Sinclair ..... those eyes, those lips ![]() Quote:

I ....ing hope not NDD. He has one of those faces that you'd love to slap over and over and over again. Have you. Guessed that I don't like the sorry excuse for a man 😡 ![]() Quote:

if Paul Burrell does take part, I can't imagine him lasting long though as he's probably got two left feet ![]() Quote:

The Strictly Prom - Where are you?
Lots of info coming out now about the Strictly Prom. It's on the 21st July and then it's being broadcast on 22nd July on BBC 4 (it says in my paper today).
We know that some lucky posters have got tickets. Wouldn't it be great if we could spot you in the audience when we're watching it on 22nd? To help with this, could we ask anyone from this thread who's in the audience to either a) wear a Puffa jacket (preferably dark blue) or b) hold up a photo/flag of a goat Obviously doing both would make things easier. ![]() ![]() Thank you |
