Sadly Laura Whitmore will not perform on tonight's show due to an ankle injury sustained earlier in the week. She has been checked by a doctor and the medical team on site and they have advised that she rests her ankle and does not dance this weekend. Laura joins Brendan on the Strictly sidelines, who has also had to pull out tonight due to a chest infection.
As per the rules of Strictly Come Dancing - because Laura and Giovanni cannot dance on tonight’s show - they will receive a bye through to next week and the show will continue with a public vote as per usual. Wish Laura a very speedy recovery below!

If you have what is considered to be a serious injury by medical staff you get 1 week bye, if you cant dance the week after you have to withdraw

I think you only get one week's pass then you have to withdraw. I remember there was tons of discussion about it when Natalie and Artem couldn't dance after she became ill. Yes I wonder why the medics didn't give both Tameka and Anastasia a pass as well?

Thanks Andy for the confirmation. It has been an unlucky series so far hasn't it. Hopefully the celebs able to dance will be great.

There are going to be some unhappy viewers out there as some might say it's wrong that she's been signed off but I guess we know nothing about the extent of the injury. This week could have been her best dance... or her worst I guess. Will she get sympathy votes next week or will people turn on her like they did Anastascia?

Shame for Gio and Laura that they can't dance but I do think it's ridiculous that you get a bye when you are injured. To me that's just tough and if you can't take part you have to pull out. How may competitions can you enter and get a bye because you are injured. I play competitive sport and we have to concede if we can't play.

Its part of the rules that you get a bye, its happened before in 2013 if she cant dance next week then she will have to withdraw

I understand what yo are saying in that if this was an ordinary competition she would be out. However I think its fair for one week, she won't be able to take a second one and going by her latest twitter message she might not be back.
