I understand what yo are saying in that if this was an ordinary competition she would be out. However I think its fair for one week, she won't be able to take a second one and going by her latest twitter message she might not be back.
Bet Tameka who danced with her knee strapped wishes she had had that option !

Yay! How fab-u-lous is that??? How lovely of you! You will be the most popular people at the stage door tonight! Who knows - you may become VIPs and ushered in to dressing room for tea and donuts - wouldn't that be good???
(If Georgia is reading this thread, she is probably alreay excited and is busy sorting out enough mugs and plates for evryone)

Ankle injury. BBC have more.

Sadly Laura Whitmore will not perform on tonight's show due to an ankle injury sustained earlier in the week. She has been checked by a doctor and the medical team on site and they have advised that she rests her ankle and does not dance this weekend. Laura joins Brendan on the Strictly sidelines, who has also had to pull out tonight due to a chest infection.

As per the rules of Strictly Come Dancing - because Laura and Giovanni cannot dance on tonight’s show - they will receive a bye through to next week and the show will continue with a public vote as per usual. Wish Laura a very speedy recovery below!
That explains the last couple of days and the mystery tweets!
At least they get to go through to next week if Laura recovers in time.
This series is turning out to be a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

She will have had the option. It would be the same for anyone not fit to perform, but presumably she was fit enough

Also actors are taught in training that the show must go on

Laura has had a medical assessment and medical advice not to dance. That is fair enough. I think its reasonable to say that medical advice should be followed.

Think of the alternative. Jiving with a dodgy ankle would, frankly, look pretty awful - hopping around out of time etc. Gio dancing around her like Anton with some of his more 'challenging' partners. Inevitably low judges scores. And probably Bottom 2. Dance off disaaaaastah = more hopping around on an injury. Then out of the competition. And quite a lot of unnecessary damage to already strained ligaments - which is not clever.

I think that 'show must go on' would actually mean 'Taxi!'. As I would quite selfishly like to see a few more Gio + Laura dances.... I am quite glad that a sensible medical decision has been made.

Edit: The above post is in the spirit of Appreciation. Not picking an argument at all. Just think the decision is probably sensible in an unfortunate set of circumstances. Will hop back over the fence now.

True. I think she'll be back next week though. It's certainly going to ruffle feathers between viewers as some will argue why has she been let off and not others.

If the bbc doctor has just told her to rest this week per Lady Lavender's earlier post, it sounds as if she may recover in time for next week.
They haven't mentioned any fracture, break, sprain or torn ligaments so it sounds like she may recover in time for the next show.

I wouldn't expect anyone to go against medical advice but I don't agree with getting through to next week. Hopefully it will be a great show. Looking forward to Danny, although I hate the rumba, Claudia and the judge(hope he is being serious)

I have a dodgy ankle from karate years ago and recently have taken up running and all I have to do is lose my footing to trigger it off and I'm out for a week at least! (This has happened twice in a couple of months it's so frustrating) So I know how she feels and I certainly wouldn't be jiving on it!

I will miss seeing her and Gio tonight though!

Have just back from lovely hols in Italy. Was going to say that shope are full of great selection of puffa jackets but it all seems a bit redundant now!
I wondered where you were Mrs Glitterball and you were in Italy you lucky thing!
Nice to "see" you back
I thought you might have bought Gio a new puffa while you were out there as it's getting "nippy" now

Well it may be touch and go if Laura remains in the competition then! Actually just thinking about it Laura may be ok for next weekend but I hadn't factored in the fact that she has to do the training first

Gio will not be a happy bunny if he has to stand in that clauditorium and not dance
Mind you he is a professional and I am sure he can deal with the disappointments of life that come his way.
I will just have to divert my attention to Gorka tonight. Oh dear what a shame

Oh it's all happening tonight isn't it?!
Yess !!!!!!! Just seen Star's post!
Congrats ladies

Laura wasn't among my favourites this year, but sorry to hear shes injured. I'm sure its the last thing either her or Gio wanted (or the people who were supporting her wanted).

Its not as if her bye to next week is controversial as it is the rules and I'd say its is in the interests of Laura, the doctors and the show for her to just miss this week. It gives them a chance to rest so that they can continue on next week. If theres any doubt for a dance, its always in the doctors interest to err on the side of caution as theres no chance of them being blamed (whereas if they gave the green light and something happened theres the potential they could be blamed) so hopefully its nothing serious enough to put her out and its just rest she needs so shes capable of carrying on. And its most definitely in the shows interests - can you imagine if she got through the dance, but injured herself more and wasn't sure if she could do the DO? Nomatter what decision was made then, it would have caused more controversy! And even if she'd got through, if she had aggravated the injury so she had to drop out the next week that would mean they were another one down for the show! Hopefully its just rest thats needed and the injury isn't too bad.

If Georgias eating donuts, does this mean star has met her? Really hope they get to have a proper chat - for her sake of course, but obviously for mine too, so i can read all about it!

EDIT : YES star !!! so looking forward to your report!
