One thing they mentioned was 'chemistry' between celebs & pros but jason didn't say anything about GG but said that Katie and Anton were a 'match made in heaven'.

Anyway, on to the evening itself - I'll just mention the dance numbers, although the orchestral interludes which were between each dance number were very nice. The stage had a dance area in front of the orchestra. The show started with a group number to the overture from Gypsy were they all came on and did a mixture of foxtrot and american smooth. I had a seat in the front of the stalls and Gio and Jo came up the stairs right in front of me. Gio waved to the audience but sadly I didn't catch his eye.

Then for the first individual number Jo and Gio did an absolutely gorgeous waltz to Gymnopedie by Erik Satie which I have only ever heard used in a ballet before. It was a beautiful dance and I must say they are a lovely partnership. Jo is a great performer as well as dancer and she really got use her acting skills.

For a complete contrast the next dance number was a charleston where Janette & Aljaz took the lead but the other 2 boys & Joanne came on as well. It was another great number and I loved how Jo and Gio went from romantic to a cheeky comedy number. Then Katie in a gorgeous dress, did a very nice Viennese Waltz with Aljaz .

The last dance number before the interval was Karen & Kevin doing a paso mostly by themselves although Gio and Aljaz came on briefly (and did some great capeography). Karen looked stunning but I was a bit distracted by Kevin's hair and couldn't decide whether he was wearing a toupee or not. Anyway, the dancing was great.

After the interval, Katie came out and did a nice QS to 42nd street. Then Janette and Aljaz did what was supposedly a rumba to 'Somewhere in Time' by John Barry. It was a lovely dance but didn't look much like a rumba to me, not that I'm an expert on these things. After the Jo and Gio did a great ballroom tango to Libertango. I loved this number and the way they both got into character. Then Kevin and Karen did a samba and the others came on for a bit so we got to see Gio's hips if only for a couple of minutes!

The last dance was a medley from Top Hat in which each couple came on individually and did a number. Jo and Gio did "isn't it a lovely day'. Then they all did a dance together to 'lets face the music' and then it finished with a standing ovation from the audience. At the end they all danced about to the Strictly theme tune and then all had a group hug! Awww!! I noticed that Gio was the first to go over and congratulate the conductor.

So, this is just a brief summary to give you a flavour of what it was like. The dancing was superb and I liked that they used so much traditional music. All in all it was a really enjoyable evening and I can't wait to see it all on telly tomorrow.

Please excuse any typos!”

Great review Nina . Sounds like you and wicks had a great night. Looking forward to watching it tomorrow 😀😀

It was a lovely night. The dancing was sublime - particularly with the wonderful orchestra. It must have been such a joy for them to dance with a full orchestra.

I was on the right hand side of the stage - about 7 rows back, so a great view. Thanks to whoever posted the pic that Marvin tweeted of his and Georgia's view. I happened to log on whilst in the queue for the loo at the interval (tmi!) and could straight away tell from that picture that she was in almost exactly the same place as me but on the opposite side - and so I immediately spotted her when I got back - I was obviously very far away but could tell it was them. She looked to be glammed up in a red dress. I couldn't see any particular waves etc between them BUT I happened to look over right at the end of the last number and she was the first to her feet and gave a one woman standing ovation (well, only one woman for a few moments, as loads of others obviously joined in but she jumped straight up on her own - v sweet!). I don't think he would have necessarily been able to see where she was to be honest.

So there were 2 group numbers - a Foxtrot at the start (blue dresses) and the Top Hat medley (mainly American smooth, but a few other bits I think) at the end (gorgeous lilac dresses). Then each of the couples did 2 dances (or in Aljaz's case - 4 as he did 2 dances with Katie too). Having said that - in most of the dances, some of the others made an appearance too - I'll try to remember who was in which and the order

Group foxtrot
Gio and Jo - Waltz (with added Kevin and Karen)
Janette and Aljaz - Char-less-ton (with added Gio, Jo and Kev)
Katie and Aljaz - VW
Karen and Kevin - Paso (with added Gio and Aljaz)
Katie and Aljaz - Quickstep
Janette and Aljaz - Rhumba
Gio and Jo - Tango (yes, to Libertango)
Karen and Kevin - Samba (with added Gio, Jo, Aljaz and Janette)
Finale top hat and tails group number

I think that's right!

All were brilliant. I was disappointed that Gio wasn't going to be doing a latin dance, so it was great when he appeared for part of the Samba - we don't want to miss those hips in action!

The dances alternated with just the orchestra playing on their own. Katie interviewed each of the couples briefly after one of their dances. When she said hello to Giovanni and Jo, he replied "hello beautiful" and she laughed and said "and that's why we love him!" - funny.

I have to say, I loved watching him with Jo - they do dance so well together. I know it's not the same as GG but still, they were terrific. Their dances were not by their very nature as showy as some of the others but they were amazing. Actually, that's not true - that tango was so dramatic. I really think they stood out in the final number as been so good at ballroom.

I'll post more if I think of anything else!

EDIT - as an aside - though they are all fantastic together, part of me thinks that Aljaz and Janette and Kevin and Karen should swap - Janette is so tiny next to Aljaz and Karen is the same height pretty much as Kevin. Just from a dance aesthetic point of view obviously - I'm not suggesting any domestic wife swapping! ”

Thank you very much - just completely green with envy !
Rally cannot wait to see it tomorrow night now.

Thank you so much nina x

I think they recorded the pre-Prom talk, edited it and played it in the interval - because we got to here Jason say exactly that about Anton and Katie.

I loved the music - am now impatient to see it on TV tomorrow !

I've seen a pic of Aljaz and Janette doing the Charleston - I like them two but sorry it should have been our GG doing that”

Actually there was a piece explaining about the charleston in the programme and they used a pic of GG doing theirs to illustrate it!

Thanks Afton, you're very welcome. I forgot to say that since I was right at the front I didn't have the best view since my view of the dancers' feet was partially obscured by the Prommers in the arena. Still, it didn't spoil my enjoyment of the evening and at least I was very close to the action and agree with Wicks' comment that Gio is very handsome! Incidentally think that chap took pics of the dances was actually told off by one of the ushers and asked to stop doing it.

Georgia must have been opposite me but I didn't notice her. For some reason I thought I spotted her in one of the boxes so I was looking there. I saw Jeremy Vine outside - I wonder if he went for a drink with GG?

Nice review and I love it that they picked out Gio and Jo's waltz for special mention.

"Drifting from one moment to the next, Joanne Clifton and Giovanni Pernice exuded a wonderful sense of the stately and the serene as they waltzed to Erik Satie’s dreamy, gentle and far-from-strenuous Gymnopédie No 1. With its timeless purity, the piano exercise was perfect for the pair to perform a series of slow poses, bringing together a delicate meeting of movement and stillness."

I agree, it was definitely one of the highlights for me, a lovely dance to one of my favourite pieces of music.

Thank you very, very much to both of you for taking the time to write these wonderful and extremely detailed reviews - much appreciated. So glad you managed to catch sight of both Gio and Georgia, Wicks, and that talk at the start sounds very interesting, Nina. Thank you both once again.

Aw, you're very welcome NDD. I'm not going to lie, it did take quite a while! And it was a stroke of luck that I posted it on page 69, wasn't it!

Though I feel a bit of a fraud taking all the credit for what is essentially compiling other people's work.
Special mention to Sergio for creating the videos, and of course Star for having the idea to do all these reviews.

It's a pity that there's no function on DS for posting photos. Can I suggest this site as a possible means of doing so, http://imgur.com/ - I've used it on here a number of times!

Re-posting these because I noticed that when viewing the reports on mobile devices it tended to scrunch some of the writing and reports together - hopefully these new 'mobile friendly' reports I've created will be easier to read for those on tablets/mobile devices.

Unfortunately we're not on page 69 any more (so it's not quite as easy to remember where they are ) but I'll bump them up when we get to pg. 100 - just so they're easier to find!

Here are all 14 parts of reviews we did for Sergio's team GG videos...

For people using a PC, the document should open as soon as you click on them.

For people using tablets, you may have to click on a box with an arrow pointing downwards at the top right of the screen, once you've clicked on this box click 'direct download' and the file should then open.

If a message pops up asking you to sign in, close it in the top right hand corner of the box - you don't have to sign in to view the files!

If you can't open them, just say and I (or someone more technologically gifted) will try and fix it!

I hope that I haven't missed any reports out, but with 120,000 words worth of them, I can't guarantee it! If one of your reports has been missed out, just tell me and it'll only take a couple of minutes to fix.

The order in which reviews appear in each document is dependent on when the reviews were posted.

Most welcome, Wicks! And thank you for that magnificent photograph - I love it, with the colours and everything, it's almost like a painting - really atmospheric!

Mainly just at the start of the dance and when they'd finished.

I've got a couple of pics from the finale too, just off to a meeting but will post them later.

I only whipped my phone out at these 2 points so didn't get any of the other dances

I agree, it was definitely one of the highlights for me, a lovely dance to one of my favourite pieces of music.”

Can't wait to see it tonight Nina. Nice that they got a special mention 👏🏻👏🏻

Wow wicks. Brilliant pictures. Well done.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 you must have had great seats, you look as though you could reach out and touch them. 😀😀😀

In the last pic it looks like he's looking for /at 'someone'. I'm probably talking rubbish and Georgia was on the opposite side of the hall 😂😂
