Semi-Final: Portugal vs Wales - (6/7/16) KO 8pm, ITV1/HD & S4C/HD
Coverage of the game will also be broadcast online at ITV Hub and on BBC Radio 5 Live and talkSPORT.
The sides have only played 3 times before - and never in a competitive game. Portugal have won 2 of the 3 encounters, with Wales' only win coming in 1951. Portugal have contested 6 semi-finals at World Cups or European Championships - but their only win came on home soil at Euro 2004. This is the 5th time Portugal have reached the semi-finals of the European Championship. They are unbeaten in their 12 competitive fixtures under Fernando Santos (W8, D4), all 8 of their wins in that run being decided by a single goal. Cristiano Ronaldo is one goal shy of equalling Michel Platini's record of 9 goals at the finals of the European Championship. The Welsh have scored 10 goals at Euro 2016. The only British team to score more at a major tournament is England, who netted 11 times at the 1966 World Cup. Only France, with 11 goals, have a better attacking record than Wales at Euro 2016. Gareth Bale has had 14 shots on target at Euro 2016 - more than any other player. This is the first time Wales have reached the semi-final of any Uefa or Fifa tournament - at any level, for men or women. |

Wales making history has been a great story. This match going to be very tight with the game being decided by a bit of magic by either Bale or Ronaldo

Interesting stats re. Bale : he's averaging three shots on target per game.

I'm already a nervous wreck
![]() praying so, so hard for Portugal ![]() Also pepe trained by himself today , he is slightly injured so he might not even play tomorrow. When I say that this team has the worst luck , smh. He is extremely critical and pivotal for this Portuguese team. 🙏🙏🙏 |

![]() Anyway the match itself is very close to call, a real 50/50, and the Bale v Ronaldo side show will be fascinating. Wales have arguably played the better football but Portugal have been very resilient and have the nous to win knockout matches, by fair means or foul. I'll go for Portugal, just, maybe in a penalty shootout. |

The Welsh defence certainly looks vulnerable tonight.
The Portugal coach has been keen to play up his teams negative tactics, but I wonder if he might surprise a few people tonight with a more positive approach to try and exploit those Welsh weaknesses. Given Portugal themselves have defensive concerns, and question marks at the back, I'm not sure ultra defensive is a sensible tactic here. Wales certainly have enough going forward to trouble them, so just digging in and inviting trouble on could be suicidal. That being said, it's probably wishful thinking from me. These knockout games are usually terrible, and the experts are likely to be proven right that this will go to extra time and maybe penalties. |

I'm full of nervous anticipation for this game, despite not really caring too much.

Portugal have been dire to watch this tournament, suffocating the life out of games aside from their match against Hungary. The final would have a better chance of being enjoyable to watch if Wales were in it. Like others I think, particularly in the absence of Wales' man of the tournament Ramsey, the outcome of this game will turn on whether Bale or Ronaldo is the most effective. I hope it is Bale and Wales who prevails, but I am mindful Ronaldo and Portugal have found a way to win, joylessly though they may have been in doing so.

How many hours to go?
Wasn't born in '58 so this whole tournament has been uncharted territory for me and of course many thousands of others, never mind being possibly 90 minutes away from a final. Just going to try and enjoy the experience, but I am genuinely a bit knotted up already! I just hope we give it a good go. I am proud of the lads whatever happens and will hopefully be a bit calmer once the actual game starts; and then, what will be will be...If the Belgium game turns out to be the peak, it was one *heck* of a peak. My mantra at the moment is "It's only a game." Of course that's true, but the slight drawback is I keep getting the theme tune to 'Big Break' in me head! |

Less than 6 hours now
Throwing a bit of a party here. We're going to celebrate like Wales players did when England lost should the Portuguese do the world a favour and send the overachievers home. |

I was cheering Wales on until they start all the anti-English stuff. So were most of my mates. Now many of us want them to lose so we can revel in their misery just like the Welsh revelled in ours.

Of course, but you are right England and Wales are rivals and I should never have been cheering Wales on.
