21 in London (only a small handful will get licences) and 11 for AM outside London
Mi Soul, Colourful, Caroline (Suffolk), AM Rock (Kent) a Greek station and several Asian stations in the lists.
It's interesting to note a few current or recent pirate radio stations on the London list. Rinse FM has, by all accounts, been a success since becoming licensed - might this encourage Ofcom to go for more of the same when awarding these latest licences? There's also a Turkish station on the list - this is a gap in the market since London Turkish Radio closed down and there are currently several Turkish pirates.

My question is how can Mi-Soul be applying for a community licence when it's London wide DAB service is an out & out commercial one from what I can hear ? My guess is another Pirate might get one of the licence as looking at the list they are amoungst the best . I would be surprised if ofcom went with Greek beat or Starpoint as LGR & the 3 other soul stations on air in London would make me ask the question what is the point in that ?

The blur between analogue community and digital commercial is increasing and Ofcom say they will sort it with the changes on formats.

the full applications are now online
This is a copy of my post in the Caroline thread also discussing Quasar on AM in London

Looks like Quasar is going for a new AM mast on a new site near Croydon.
Last round2 4 London stations got AM licences,
http://radiotoday.co.uk/round2/
so they have a better chance of getting a licence with AM than FM, but only Betar-Bangla got on air and for various reasons the others handed back licences.

AM is fast becoming obsolete except for ethnic stations and many of these are also now on DAB. But as they say in the Caroline bid many car radios still have AM, which will help justify the transmissions. (although the bit where it says over 45s struggle with new technology will be a bit insulting to many!)

Hopefully soon either Caroline or Quasar will also go DAB+ in London?

Tried listening to Quasar via the Listen Live links on their site and just get "error". Any ideas? They cite their online service as the model for the proposed AM one so presumably intend people to listen online.

I think the little players are flash based, Safari doesn't do flash.
