Portugal did not impress me tonight. So i think it is between France and Germany for the Euros as they are two of the best teams in the tournament

Well, on paper.. YES!!! But then I thought Portugal would crash out about 4 games ago, so never discount this ugly Portugal team with their awful football that can suffocate any game and turn it into something unwatchable

Yes, I think Portugal can win ugly rather like Greece in 2004, which might be disappointing. On the other hand both Germany and France have good winning records against them. Of course Italy had a 100% record against Germany until last match.

Once Portugal got through a group without winning a game I had a vision of them trudging their way to the cup. They've done exactly that so far so I'm sticking with them, as much as it pains me.

It'll be interesting to see how they play the final. They won't need to wait for the first goal in order to benefit from more space in the final third. Both France and Germany defend a much higher line and leave themselves open to effective counter attacking football. So the final could be a really good watch if Portugal use their second half performance as the blueprint for success. |

But Portugal don't play a set way the way Greece did. They somehow manage to almost hypnotise teams into playing awful and suffocate any beginning of decent football. Apparently, their manager's main philosophy is not to attack. They look deceptively easy to beat because they play badly, but every team they have touched in this tournament has turned into something awful

If Germany reach the final then I think they will be far too strong for Portugal. If France reach the final then Portugal have a chance as they will be able to frustrate the French attack, the way they have been set-up to play. The Germany / France semi will be more of an open game. I personally think Germany will win but if France play to their full potential they could surprise Germany.

Portugal have been very difficult to beat so I don't think it's a foregone conclusion the winner of the tournament is from tonight's match.
They are not playing ugly football, just their matches have tended to be boring, they keep the ball well, generally pass very well, just the built up is very slow and by the time they get to goal, the other team has bodies behind the ball...if they speeded up the pace they could be an exciting team to watch. |

The question in my mind is that part of the plan, wait for the first goal before picking up the pace of your play to exploit new openings, or if they decided at half time they needed to play in a different way. The opening goal came so early in the second half it's difficult to tell. |

![]() But I honestly can't think of a team the Germans love to play (and beat) more than Portugal. They have no organisation, are slow and very easily provoked in defence (would be shocked if Portugal finished with 11 men), have no real attacking bite bar the odd accidental ball in the box for Ronaldo or Nani. Very easy win for Germany |

I agree that both should be too strong , re Ronaldo he rarely does much against better quality opposition these days

Portugal are reminiscent of the Argentina 1990 team when a very limited team was dragged by Maradona to the final.
I was getting the same exact thought about Portugal in this tournament. Very Argentina 1990. In addition, Argentina also played very defensively in that World Cup (TBF all teams bar the German side did), pretty much relying on the penalty shoot outs during the knock out phase. They were also playing for penalties in the final. |

I would France have better players in nearly every position .
If Ronaldo on song then he could easily score |
