One of the very, very best, who is still alive (90 now), the inimitable Hilda Ogden played by the wonderful Jean Alexander - if only for a couple of episodes to see Rita, Ken and the Rovers Return for one last time.

Now that I would just love to see.
Don't forget the Websters - Hilda's closest connection to the street is actually through Sally and Kevin.

I'd love to see this happen too but I think the reality of it happening is very, very slim.
Actually, they could do this and have her die of old age in the Rovers? Be a fitting end for her? Or would that be going too far?

I think a more fitting end would be for her to die at No.13 (Kevin still lives there so it's within the realms of feasible).

I very much doubt that Jean Alexander would ever return, though. She's happy to let Hilda live on as a legend in people's memories and doubt she'd agree to coming back just to die.

I have to disagree, they have killed off way too many characters. What would be so wrong with a recast?
Sean Wilson was a major cast member for 20 years - a recast would be fairly outlandish. If there is absolutely no way they can entice him back, an offscreen death is far more appropriate.

I disagree I've roles just as big recast, plus Martin has been off screen for over a decade a recast would hardly be jarring to the audience. The new actor would be able to make the role his own, much like Ryan Hawley has done with Robert on Emmerdale.

Despite how unrealistic it is for Martin to only live an hour away but never visit his family, it has nearly been eleven years since his departure and I don't really see the point in killing him off. Of course it may happen when David grows older and Martin ages off-screen, but there isn't much point to doing it at the moment.

I think there's big potential in a Claire return. The Peacocks have a long history with the show and were involved in some big stories, I say some big stories like Hillman and the tram crash. Get rid of the Alahans and bring back the lovely Claire (copyright Sulla) with her boys. This is the type of unit the show is missing.

I'm not advocating killing Martin off right now, I just think it's preferable to a recast. When it's for characters as established as Martin it's a rather a stretch for viewers to accept. May as well just write in a new character instead to be honest.

I think the most important are Peter, Rosie and one of either Janice or Toyah, or both. They've all got bags of story potential waiting for them.

Kirsty would be good to give terminally dull Tyrone and Fiz a boost in the short term. Jeez, even Jackie Dobbs would do that.

I've always wanted a big Barlow extension, firstly with all the existing Barlows that are floating out there making their presence known. It's something that should be acted upon while Ken's still around I feel.

Returns like Claudia and Ted would cause little bother, and could be nice. I'll throw another name into the mix though - Martha Fraser. I adored Ken and Martha, he deserves the happiness she'd bring to his life, and having Stephanie Beacham back would be the stuff of dreams.
Someone else I had in mind for the same reason was Minnie Chandra. I liked how she got on with Tyrone, including how she flirted with him at the garage. She hasn't been in for nearly 7 years though.

I also nominated Candice. It would be interesting to see how she got on with Sarah now. I'd also like to see how Nikki Sanderson would act the part as she has been in Hollyoaks for a while.

I voted for several:

1. The missing Battersbys: I've only seen the Battersbys in old youtube videos but from what I've seen of them I love.

2. Peter Barlow: His absence is really felt, he should have been around for Simon's abuse story and I wouldn't mind seeing him and Leanne reunite.

3. Martin Platt- It makes no sense that David's father hasn't been around for all the drama going on in the Platts. If t hey can't get the original actor to come back they should recast.

4. Rosie Webster- She seemed like a really fun character maybe they could pair her with Gary causing Anna and Sally to clash once again.
If I remember right Rosie had a one night stand with Gary years ago. So there is history there

I would bring back Sian Powers to get back with Sophie, because outside this forum she still seems to have a massive fan base

What about Harry Flagg, the "potman" in the Rovers around the mid-00s? Not a major character by any means, but I liked him, he was kinda "old school" Corrie. But he just sort of disappeared as I recall *goes off to consult Corriepedia*

Coronation Street: Who should return?

Despite all Blackburn’s faults, we have had some decent returns under his watch; Liz, Todd, JennyBradley and Sarah.
Where's Jenny gone? I miss her...

I would bring Sian back to Sophie & have them set up some sort of busness together or something!!
I think Sian's been too busy working for Mr Selfridge

Top of the list for me would be Rosie Webster. There is so much potential there. I would also say Martin. If the actor 100% refuses to ever consider it, I wouldn't be that opposed to a re-cast either. But it seems like they rarely re-cast adult characters. Only ones who are returning in their teens or 20's where its more feasible that they could change in appearance.

Others I'd welcome...Janice/Les/Cilla. Curly. Candice. And I enjoy the recurring appearances by people like Peter and Jim, so I would like to see them again at some point as well.

Is the Julie Carp option for the original or the other Julie Carp?

I read something a few days ago that Becky might be coming back. Something to do with Kylie.
I think Kylie should run off to Bermuda or wherever it was that Becky went and they should have their own show.

Slightly baffled by the love for Toyah. She was an okay character, but apart from her connection to Leanne,I can't see what else she would being to the show?
