Are we really still using possession as the yard-stick for the best team in 2016? Given everything that has happened this year and the success of teams like Iceland, both Irelands, Wales, Portugal, Italy...?
The Germans finishing has been appalling all tournament. They should have beaten Northern Ireland about 10-0 and instead only scored one (partly due to Michael McGovern of course). They dominated the French in the first-half last night and yet had no end product. Even in the final five minutes of the game they had two gilt-edged chances and numerous crosses into the box that nobody was on the end of. I think this French team look weak at the back but they are very talented in attack and midfield. The likes of Griezman and Pogba would get in any team in the world. You could certainly make a case for them being the best team in the tournament but harder to say that they are a truly great side. |
