England managers are treated very differently to club managers. Look at Bobby Robson. Loved as a club manager, vilified as England boss. You underestimate the vindictiveness of the English press towards whoever is England manager.
Even in the 60s Sir Alf wouldn't give them the time of day, and he was able to get away with it for a few years. Nowadays, the manager has targets pinned to them for the press to hit. ![]() Anyway, I can't see anyone complaining about England reaching a quarter final for the first time in ages, which is hardly an impossible task for any manager |

BIB - I think Van Gaal would beg to differ

So if England had beaten Iceland, everyone would be congratulating Roy?

Because England played so badly!! Had England played like Germany yesterday, but lost, people would be heartbroken but they could live with it. Had England battled like Iceland when 4:0 down, I think people would have accepted it, but they just played so badly! And that was Roy's fault to a great extent.

So one match decides whether Roy is a hit or miss? That's ridiculous.

The German press and fans are totally outraged that every German player got a 100K EUR bonus for reaching the semi-final because a World Champion should only be aiming for the title. That's how demanding German football fans are. No one is going to celebrate this heroic semi-final exist for 20 years.
Low would become an English legend |

So countries who win more tend to expect more. Not sure what the big deal is here.
His predecessor has set the bar so low that the fans and media will almost be happy with anything slightly better |

Nope. The press would never criticise Low as long as his results were better than Hodgson's (not a big challenge there). You have never before had a manager with Low's reputation.
Look how the press is treating Klopp despite his less than stellar season and he hasn't even won a Champions League title, let alone a World Cup. Low would be untouchable. |

The point is that someone who has been continuously ripped apart by the press over the course of a decade, in which he has won a World Cup, played in a Euros final and never taken the team lower than a semi-final in any tournament, would find the pressure of England's media and fan expectations a breeze!
