New Now TV Box question

Can somebody answer this for me (in layman's terms please)?

I have a Now TV box which I only use for watching live football on Sky (and very occasionally BBC iPlayer). I dislike the 'filmic' effect you get when watching the football, and I wondered if the new box might eliminate this?

If does eliminate it, it might be worth going for, but if it doesn't I'll stick with my current box.

BTW, can you sideload Plex onto the new box?

I wonder if the effect you mention is anything to do with the "old" Now boxes being 60Hz output and the result of converting 50Hz broadcast to 60Hz? If so the new box might cure that as it does 50Hz output.

The new box streams the freeview channels but does it do the HD ones?

Yes, 12 HD Channels, but they're not streamed, the box is a Freeview receiver as well as a Now Tv Box.

To be clear, you will need an aerial to watch any of the free view channels via this box. A large shortcoming IMHO.

I registered my interest but have heard nothing, today i read a article in a newspaper and found out the new box went onsale yesterday.

I agree that is a big shortcoming, if they were streamed I would go for it.

The new NOW TV Smart Box runs at 50Hz which should stop this effect.

This is disappointing. I don't have an Aerial and I thought this new box would have been a good addition to the household had it been able to stream the freeview channels. Will just stick to the current box then.

It is a shame, but who would pay for the redistribution of what would be 3rd party channels, at zero cost to the end user?

Now TV doesn't have any multicasting peering with ISPs so the streaming of many Freeview channels via unicast IP would be very expensive, for which they'd get no recompense.

Even though I have a brand new aerial pointing at the most favourable site, it is simply not possible for me to get some Freeview multiplexes OTA due to trees. I rely on D-SAT and IP for TV. Integrated Freesat TVs are expensive and IP takes a few steps and a couple of minutes to get to start watching. Changing channels is not ideal.

The closest thing we've got to 'normal TV' over IP is with TV Player, but the quality is low.
